Lyanna Mormont's death in 'Game of Thrones' season 8 episode 3 leaves fans asking if it was really necessary

The show never gave her much screen time but when this little lady rode to battle she made sure she fulfilled the promise she made to Jon Snow.

If you haven't watched the latest 'Game of Thrones' episode, don't read any further. Spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3.

The death of Lady Lyanna Mormont is one for the books. The little Lady of her house died as we had always imagined her to go - in the middle of the battle, probably killing the enemy. What we didn't expect was that she'd go offing a giant. In a move that only Lyanna could have pulled off in the entire episode, she tries to stop a giant as they invade Winterfell in the battle between the living and the dead. She doesn't succeed, unfortunately, because well, the logic in that situation was grim right from the beginning. She does, however, blind the damn icy giant and goes down a hero in a pure Goliath vs. David moment.

From the day when we laid eyes on Lady Lyanna Mormont, we knew that this was a book you couldn't possibly judge by its cover.  Small but always fierce, Lyanna had a special place in the fandom thanks to her absolutely endearing personality. Her death was unfair, as were countless others in ' The Battle of Winterfell' and Twitter had some reactions - they just can't deal with it. It was too quick, too painful and just too brave. Who could possibly forget those iconic lines? "I will not hide underground, I pledged to fight for the North and I will Fight."

Twitter collectively cheered their real MVP on.

"The realest n**** in the room full of men, lady mormont,"  one fan wrote while another tried to come to terms with wht happened. " Lady Mormont just died meanwhile Dany and Jon are flying around like Aladdin and Jasmine singing a whole new world, wtf #GameofThrones," the user said. A third user said, "LADY MORMONT IS THAT BITCH!!!!!!! YASSS!! SMALLEST THING THERE TOOK OUT THE BIGGEST!!! THATS WHY I STAN!!"

Some fans thought that she was too young to die.

While some blamed the show.
