'Game of Thrones' Season 8: Stills from episode 2 suggest tension gripping Winterfell on the last night before the Great War

The images show the Kingslayer on trial, Lyanna Mormont suited up for battle, and the rest preparing to fight the army of the dead

Things are boiling up in Winterfell as Jaime Lannister found himself under the watchful gaze of Bran Stark, the boy he pushed off a tower back in season 1. While this little incident sparked the entire battle between the Starks and the Lannisters during the first three seasons of HBO's 'Game of Thrones', Jaime and Bran never met during the last seven seasons of the show. However, even before Jaime's arrival, Winterfell saw an army of Unsullied and Dothraki march into the north of the kingdom in order to protect Winterfell from the approaching threat of the Night King and his army of White Walkers.

In the recently released pictures of episode 2 of 'Game of Thrones' season 8, we see tension once again returning to the corners of Winterfell as Jon Snow, and the rest gather together to chalk out a plan to stop the Night King. In the images, we see Jon Snow sincerely trying to plan out their next move in Winterfell while Daenerys, accompanied by Ser Jorah Mormont and Lord Varys, along with Sam and Arya listen to his plan. On the other hand, there is also an image of Jaime Lannister standing in the court before the Starks and Daenerys, a scene which opens the trailer to episode 2.

The scene begins with Daenerys talking of how her brother would tell her stories about the man, the Kingslayer, who killed their father, and all the things they would do to him once they laid their hands on him. Jaime finds himself in a merciless situation, as he is a criminal charged with a murder, an attempted murder, and incest.

However, being concerned with a more pressing matter of the White Walkers, chances are Daenerys will choose to spare Jaime. In return, perhaps Jaime will forge an alliance with the Starks and murder his sister, Cersei, who has quite recently turned into a Mad Queen.

On the other hand, we also see the star-crossed lovers Missandei and Grey Worm perhaps having their last conversation before the Unsullied set off to fight in the Great War. The trailer of episode 2 shows the two sharing a kiss right before the Great War begins, and with this picture, it seems that the scene is not too far away. We also see a very drunk Tyrion Lannister laid back with a glass of wine, smirking at something in the distance. We won't be surprised if it happens to be Bran Stark who even in episode 2 continues to silently watch everything around him, while the rest are losing their heads over the Great War to come.

However, it seems the Lords of the North aren't yet satisfied with Jon Snow's decision to bend his knee to a foreigner, and we get a glimpse of that fury from Lyanna Mormont, who in one of the pictures seems to be suited up to fight in the Great War. Other than that, Gilly and Ser Davos seem to be spending a lot of time in the courtyard as it looks like they are helping the Northerners gather their food right before war breaks. Perhaps, Gilly will also have one of her last peaceful nights with Sam and their boy, as one of the pictures shows the three lying in bed, Sam and Gilly wide awake, while their boy peacefully sleeps.

'Game of Thrones' season 8 episode 2 arrives April 21, and the Night King will arrive very soon.
