Dario Naharis could return in 'Game of Thrones' season 8 and subvert the Golden Company, fans predict

He was left behind in Essos as Daenerys claimed she couldn't take a lover with her to Westeros, but he might return to help her against Cersei

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) has left behind a lot over her course to attain power over several kingdoms in order to build her army to usurp King's Landing, and on the way, she has also left behind men who have loved her. While her husband, Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa), met with a fateful death at the end of season 1, her lover, Dario Naharis (Michiel Huisman), was asked to rule over Meeren in her name when she left for Westeros at the end of season 6.

However, with the White Walkers on the verge of attacking Winterfell, could Dario Naharis arrive once again to the aid of his beloved Queen? Although Dario's arrival will just create an unnecessary tension in Daenerys' life, as right now, she has more pressing matters to attend, fans are wondering if he will arrive as one of the sellswords in the Golden Company.

The company arrived in episode 1 of season 8, as Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) welcomed them to join her in her fight against Daenerys' left-over army. Some fans claimed Dario might just return with the other sellswords in the Golden Company. A fan on Reddit said, "We know that the Company is an army made by mercenary, just like Daario Naharis before he pledged allegiance to Daenerys. Before leaving Essos, Daenerys ordered Daario to stay in Meereen and rule the city in her name. However, Daario was very disappointed with her decision, since he's in love with her and wants to fight for her. So it could make sense that, Daario will betray Daenerys, by somehow joining the Golden Company and reaching Westeros to fight her."

While other fans are not prepared to believe that Dario will betray Daenerys, some state he will perhaps be instrumental in turning the Golden Company against Cersei. Another fan claimed, "I believe Dario still has a part to play in season 8 but he probably won’t betray Danny. The Golden Company was founded by The Great Bastard, Aegor Rivers (aka: Bittersteel). Aegor is of Targaryen decent and the Company is known to be extremely dedicated to Aegor and quite possibly; the family name. Even the Company’s war cry is “beneath the gold, is bitter steel” which pays homage to their founder. My theory is that the Golden Company will betray Cersei and perhaps Daario will facilitate that."

Dario Naharis wasn't one of the characters we were reunited with in season 8 episode 1, and while we still do not know if the character will return, nothing has been revealed about his arrival. However, when Huisman was questioned about his character's return in the final season, the actor simply stated, " I’m not allowed to say." The actor, however, did reveal that for the longest time he believed one fo the Stark sisters will sit on the throne.

He mentioned, "For the longest of time, I thought it was going to be one of the sisters, one of the Starks that was going to be on the throne, that was going to end up on the iron throne." Whatever it is, the army in the North can use all the help they get, and perhaps Daenerys too understands that it is better to have her force in Winterfell rather than in Essos.

'Game of Thrones' season 8 returns with episode 2 on April 21.
