French bulldog falls from 6-story Manhattan building, crashes through car sunroof, and miraculously survives with minor injuries

Emma Heinrich, the dog's owner, said her pet had a cut on his hind leg but did not break a single bone in his body

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: A French bulldog, named Winston, miraculously survived after falling from a six-story New York City apartment building into the sunroof of a parked vehicle.

Winston suffered minimal injuries last week and was taken to an emergency vet hospital.

Emma Heinrich, the dog's owner, had just returned from a walk with her pet when she unleashed the dog before they entered their Orchard Street apartment in Manhattan around 11 pm Friday, August 2, the Daily Mail reports.

But the pooch, instead of going inside the apartment, bolted up another flight of stairs and entered the building's roof through a door that had been left open.

"I tried to get him to come to me but he bolted again, towards the front edge of the building. I saw him try and slow down at the last second but it was too late and he went over the edge," Heinrich posted on Reddit.

How Winston managed to sustain only minor injuries from the fall still remains a mystery. (imgur)

The dog came subsequently crashing down through the sunroof of a Dodge Challenger parked right outside the building.

Winston wasn't "visibly bleeding but was quite shook up and salivating a lot," bystanders said.

Just moments later, witnesses saw Heinrich ran out of the building and headed straight toward the vehicle.

She rescued Winston after climbing onto the hood of the car and pulling the dog out through the shattered sunroof.

Immediately after the fall, Heinrich rushed her beloved pet to the nearest animal hospital.

"He has a cut on his hind leg that has been stitched, but miraculously did not break a single bone in his body. I’ve been told that he has a fair amount of bruising, as to be expected," she wrote.

Winston was kept under observation for the following 24 hours to ensure the fall didn't affect his breathing.

"It’s an absolute miracle that he is alive right now," Heinrich said.

That said, Heinrich will be paying the owner of the car to compensate for the damaged sunroof.

Nonetheless, how Winston managed to sustain only minor injuries from the fall still remains a mystery.
