NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On Tuesday, September 5, Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham reportedly reflected on her interview with Senator Bill Cassidy from 2021 and slammed GOP Senators for getting “played” by Joe Biden’s “idiotic” infrastructure bill.

It all happened when The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget confirmed that the federal deficit would double this year.

Back in 2021, ‘The Ingraham Angle’ host Laura Ingraham exchanged blows with Cassidy over the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package.

Laura Ingraham calls out Joe Biden’s ‘idiotic’ infrastructure bill

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham tweeted on President Joe Biden’s “idiotic” infrastructure bill and reflected on the probability of the US deficit getting doubled this year.

The tweet read, “Cut spending! Remember all the GOP senators who voted for Biden’s idiotic infrastructure bill. US deficit is projected to roughly double this year: watchdog.”

The tweet featured an article by The Hill titled, “US deficit is projected to roughly double this year: watchdog.”

Under the article, it was stated that the federal deficit will “double this year to total about $2 trillion for the fiscal year that ends September 30” as per Marc Goldwein, senior policy director at The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

He further added, “A big part of the story is just that there was sort of a one-time huge revenue surge in 2022 that’s done. But the other stories are that we have structurally deficits really rising in 2023. And that’s a lot of that is because of interest costs.”

Goldwein told The Hill, “These things add up. It’s no one thing that’s causing us to go from $1 trillion to $2 trillion. It’s like six things.”

This follows years during which the United States experienced unprecedented deficit levels in 2020 and 2021, primarily attributed to spending and borrowing necessitated by the pandemic. In 2020, the deficit reached a staggering $3.1 trillion, followed by $2.8 trillion in 2021.

Laura Ingraham takes a dig at GOP Senators

Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham’s tweet highlighted an article from the New York Post titled, “Laura Ingraham tells GOP senator ‘you guys got played’ on infrastructure bill.”

The article featured an interview from 2021 of Ingraham with Senator Bill Cassidy on ‘The Ingraham Angle’ about the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package.

Following Ingraham's echoing of small-government Republican concerns that the bill represents a "Trojan horse" for significant Democratic Party spending initiatives, she posed a question to Hill, one of the key negotiators of the package, regarding whether he had reviewed the extensive 2,702-page bill.

He said, “My staff and I have read it totally. And defending it, my gosh, why wouldn’t you want this, as one of my colleagues said?”

Cassidy incurred Ingraham's displeasure when he put forth the idea that approving the bipartisan bill might pose challenges for Pelosi in her efforts to push through the $3.5 trillion budget resolution.

In the exchange, Cassidy stated, "Pelosi wants to link the two. She doesn't think she has the votes for that $3.5 trillion."

In response, Ingraham asked with incredulity, "Senator, are you on this show tonight saying that Nancy Pelosi hasn't gamed out her votes?"

Cassidy maintained, "She doesn't think she has the votes on the $3.5 trillion. She's hoping to fold these together so she can get it passed, and by the way... Republicans against this bill are trying to help Nancy Pelosi."

Later in the segment, Ingraham questioned Cassidy further, "Why not do what Pelosi did and say, 'Show us your hand first, let's see the full text of your reconciliation bill, everything that's in it'... let them show their hand. But it got flipped, didn't it? You guys got played on this. You had to vote first, or agree first. They still haven't shown the text of their legislation, have they, sir?"
