AKRON, OHIO: A former Ohio school teacher who confessed to having sex with one of her students because he "acted and looked like her ex-husband" has been sentenced to two years in prison. MEAWW previously reported that Laura V. Bucy, 32, of Akron, was arrested in September 2018 after her ex-husband reported her to the police following her confession to her former father-in-law that she had "slept with one of her students."

During their investigation into Bucy, formerly an economics teacher at Twinsburg High School, the 32-year-old admitted she "exchanged compromising photographs" and had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student of hers.

She claimed she did it at a time "she felt very overwhelmed with having three kids to care for, working and attending college," and that she and the victim had formed a "very strong connection" because he would come into her classroom and help her clean.

Bucy said the boy "acted and looked like her ex-husband" and said the sexual abuse had happened either in February or March 2018 at a classroom pantry after he came into the room after lunch.

She said there had been one instance of sexual intercourse and that, afterward, they exchanged photos and videos of themselves on Snapchat. She also revealed she gave him liquid for his vaping device because she knew he liked it and bought him $10 worth of marijuana from another student.

When detectives questioned the teen, he corroborated the allegations against Bucy but said the sexual abuse occurred before Christmas and not in February or March as she claimed. He said he was in the pantry to help her clean when she came up behind him and started kissing him, and that he didn't tell anyone because he didn't want her getting into trouble.

She was subsequently charged with sexual battery, a third-degree felony and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a fifth-degree felony. She pleaded guilty to the first charge at a Summit County Common Pleas Court last year.

She was facing up to five years in prison but was let off with two by Summit County Common Pleas Judge Susan Baker Ross, who also ordered her to five years of probation and to register as a sex offender.
