Retired Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher might have found an ally in the US president but that hasn’t made the count of his enemies any less. The former Special Operations chief recently lashed out at the “coward” members of his platoon who gave testimony against him over his war crimes trial and said the reality was not yet known.

On Monday, January 27, Gallagher targeted the members of his former Team 7 Alpha Platoon in a three-minute video he posted on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The 40-year-old blasted his former team about a month after a previously unseen video emerged of the SEALs being interviewed about Gallagher by naval criminal investigators.

The SEALs called Gallagher as “evil”, “toxic” and “perfectly okay with killing anybody that was moving” in the footage obtained by the New York Times. The talks were held before Gallagher was charged in September 2018 and later acquitted -- of war crimes, including the murder of an injured Islamic State fighter in Iraq. In November, Trump cleared three service members convicted or accused of war crimes, including Gallagher. The president even restored his title of chief petty officer but a top Navy SEAL officer named Collin Green sent Gallagher’s controversial case for a military review defying the president’s move

Trump’s intervention on behalf of Gallagher was also met with strong objections from Pentagon leaders who said it would only hurt the integrity of the military judicial system.

Gallagher, who had expressed his gratitude for the president, used clips of his former platoon members being quizzed by the investigators in the video that he released on the social media. He even highlighted the names and ranks of the SEALs besides their pictures.

'The truth is coming'

“My entire adult life I've had the honor and privilege of fighting for this country,” he said in the video.

“Even though I went to trial, exposed all the lies about me by certain cowards in my platoon and found not guilty, there are those to this day who refuse to accept that fact.”

“The fight to clear my name is not over. The truth has never been fully exposed about what really happened. You may think you know, but you have no idea. For those who continue to slander my name, the truth is coming,” he added.
