Former Chief of the Council of European Union, Donald Tusk, took a swipe at President Donald Trump on Thursday by tweeting a picture of himself holding two fingers like a gun into the back of the US president.

Tusk's tweet comes just days after a diplomatic row blew up at Nato summit this week after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron were caught on tape mocking Trump. Other leaders involved in the conversation included UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Trump reportedly canceled his last press conference at the NATO summit after four leaders were caught on a "hot mic" appearing to mock his lengthy press conferences. Trump, after the incident, was also caught in a "hot mic" moment, seemingly calling the Canadian leader "two-faced."

Tusk, who shared the picture in the wake of the controversy, appeared to take a blatant dig at the US President. The ex-EU chief's picture was reportedly taken at the G7 meeting in Canada last year and shows Trump, Tusk, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a frame, with Tusk pointing two fingers towards Trump's turned back. Trump and Tusk had a fraught relationship during the Brussels politician's term at the top of the EU. Tusk, who had been heading the EU Council from 2014 until last month, now leads the center-right European People's Party in his country.

Tusk, alongside the image, wrote: "Despite seasonal turbulences, our transatlantic friendship must last #Trump #NATO." The former EU Council chief, who regularly took aim at Trump during his tenure, had slammed the US President a few months ago in a United Nations speech, calling the Republican's views "false and dangerous."

The former EU Council chief, in 2018, had called the White House administration "capricious," saying: "Looking at the latest decisions of President Trump, some could even think, 'with friends like that, who needs enemies?'"
