Alec Baldwin buys 50-acre historic property in Vermont amid lawsuit over 'Rust' death
Alec Baldwin, a 63-year-old actor, and producer, recently purchased a farm property in Arlington, Vermont. The area has a population of fewer than 2,500 people and is about a 70-minute drive from Albany. According to a real estate broker involved in the sale, the farmhouse was built in the early 1780s and sits on 50-something acres and $1.75 million was reported as the purchase price, according to the local news outlet Bennington Banner.
Other than the new Hollywood residents of Baldwin, Google Maps shows that Arlington's Ice Pond Road, where the farm is located, has two nearby points of interest. The Village Peddler and Chocolatorium are one, and the Federated Church of East Arlington is the other. The broker also clarified regarding the new estate that it is a “classic Vermont 18th century farm that features 55 beautiful acres, a 3,600-square-foot main house, and a nicely-renovated 1800 square-foot guest cottage with 2 baths.”

The estate also has some additional details including numerous outbuildings, updated horse stalls, several pastures, expansive landscaped lawn areas, pleasant views and a pond with a picturesque waterfall spillway, and substantial renovations that have taken place in recent years, according to the real estate broker. She also revealed to Bennington Banner that Baldwin’s wife Hilaria’s grandfather spent many years in Arlington before passing away in 2020 at the age of 92. According to previous real estate records, the modest home included a 3,600 [square foot] main house and a nicely renovated 1800 [square-foot] guest cottage with 2 baths was sold for just $559,000 in 2014, according to Daily Mail.
After the unintentional shooting death of Halyna Hutchins in October 2021, Baldwin spent time in Vermont. When the accident happened in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Hutchins, a cinematographer, was on the set of ‘Rust’ that Baldwin was co-producing and starring in. Last week, Hutchins' family sued all the producers of ‘Rust’, including Baldwin, as well as set armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed and assistant director David Halls, for wrongful death. According to Deadline, the suit claims, "Defendant Baldwin, the Producers, and the Rust Production Companies have taken adequate precautions to ensure firearm safety on the set of Rust or if basic firearm safety rules had been followed on the set of Rust on October 21, 2021, Halyna Hutchins would be alive and well, hugging her husband and nine-year-old son."
The attorney for Baldwin and the producers responded in a statement, “any claim that Alec was reckless is entirely false. He, Halyna, and the rest of the crew relied on the statement by the two professionals responsible for checking the gun that it was a ‘cold gun’—meaning there is no possibility of a discharge, blank or otherwise.… Actors should be able to rely on armorers and prop department professionals, as well as assistant directors, rather than deciding on their own when a gun is safe to use." Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria, pulled over in Vermont less than two weeks after the incident while being followed by paparazzi and conducted a tense interview with reporters.
According to TMZ, Alec said at that time, "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours. I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred. I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."
