In a bizarre case of assault, a Florida teen threatened to hurt her grandparents with a knife after they refused to let her eat tomatoes. In an incident that occurred September 12, 19-year-old Katie Jade Gates is said to have become enraged after she was denied the tomatoes at the dinner table, so much so she threw a water bottle at her elderly grandfather, the Nassau County Sheriff's office said.

Gates "wanted to eat more than her fair share of tomatoes at the dinner table," the police report said and when they refused, she began to throw a fit. She then hurled a water bottle at her grandfather Edward Schaedel and allegedly threw a pack of cigarettes at another 73-year-old female relative. The elderly relative was hit on the upper part of her eye.

According to The Smoking Gun, when her grandfather confronted her about the behavior, she was angered even further and is said to have grasped a knife and threatened him with him. The age of the grandfather is not mentioned in the report.

According to the police report, she allegedly said, "Motherf**ker, I’ll stab you in your f**king face" while poking the knife at him, almost striking him in the face. According to the elderly relatives, she continued to "underhand poke and overhand strike at him" while holding the knife in her hand and "yelling obscenities."

Following the outburst, the grandmother threatened to call the police after which Gates ran to the kitchen and dropped the knife. The officer recovered the knife from the kitchen, the report said.

When the police arrived and questioned her, she admitted that she had struck the elderly relative with a cigarette packet and that she had picked up the knife during the argument. Gates has been charged with two felonies aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery on a victim over the age of 65. Her bond was set at $18,000 and she is set to appear in court October 3.
