Florida man shoots pregnant wife to death thinking her to be a home intruder after he heard a noise
STUART, FLORIDA: In a tragic incident, a man shot his pregnant wife after mistaking her for an intruder. The six-months-pregnant woman was shot just around 1.30 am on Wednesday, November 4, after the man heard a noise outside the bedroom of their house in Stuart, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said. The sheriff stated that the man, whose name has not been revealed, told investigators that when he heard the noise, he first checked the side of his bed and misunderstood that his wife was there. After that, he reportedly took out his gun and fired a bullet at the shadowy figure, which later turned out to be his wife.
Soon, as the man realized his mistake, he called 911 and frantically told them he hit his wife with a bullet. The woman was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead. But the baby was saved. “He gave us a pretty in-depth statement, in which he said that he woke up in the middle of the night, thought he heard somebody in the house, went to investigate with a handgun, saw a shape in the hallway and fired one round and unfortunately, it turned out to be his wife,” Snyder said as reported by The Tampa Bay Times.
The sheriff continued, “This is a nightmare case. You know somebody who thinks he’s defending his home, actually shoots his wife. So, though we do have a good statement from him, we don’t take anything to face value and we’ll continue investigating through all backgrounds; there’s a lot of investigative steps that we’ll have to make sure that he’s telling the truth.” The man is also a father of a two-year-old kid, who was in the house when the incident happened. But he is safe.
Snyder issued a warning message for the people who have guns in their house. He said, “When you have a home where you have family members, you have to be even more careful and wait that extra second and do everything you can to make sure you know what you’re dealing with when you’re about to use deadly force.”
In a similar incident, a 15-year-old Alabama girl was shot in the stomach by her stepfather, who mistook her for an intruder. The incident reportedly happened over the weekend when the teenager returned home at 2.15 am and opened the garage door to her parents’ home. Her stepdad thought some intruder was trying to barge into the house and went outside to check while taking along his gun. He accidentally shot the girl in the stomach. The victim was soon taken to a hospital where she is receiving treatment. It has been said that the condition of the girl is serious.
A month before the Alabama incident, a woman in Mexico died after she was fatally shot while shooting a video for TikTok. On the day of the accident, Areline Martinez was faking her own kidnapping for the social media video, but her friends who were also reportedly part of it accidentally shot her to death.
