Florida man shoots 22-year-old Burger King employee dead after 'depraved' girlfriend complains of slow service

The 37-year-old attacker has been charged with first-degree murder with a firearm, destruction of evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

ORLANDO, FLORIDA: A Florida woman who was upset that her fast food was taking too long called "her man" to the restaurant, where he physically assaulted an employee before fatally shooting him.

The disturbing incident unfolded this past Saturday, August 1, at around 7:30 pm at the Burger King on the 7000 Block of E. Colonial Drive, according to Click Orlando. When deputies arrived at the scene a few minutes later, they found Desmond Armond Joshua, 22, suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot.

He was rushed to an area hospital but could not be saved despite the best efforts of medical professionals and was declared dead the same evening. He had reportedly started working at the Burger King only a few days earlier.

During their investigation, authorities uncovered a video that showed him in a physical altercation with a male, later identified as 37-year-old Kelvis Rodriguez-Tormes. Rodriguez-Tormes has Joshua in a headlock, an affidavit filed in connection to the incident said.

A witness at the scene said the restaurant had been busy that night, which had caused the drive-thru to back up and resulted in customers having to wait longer than usual for their orders. One customer, a woman, was incensed by the delay and got out of her vehicle to make a scene, the witness said.

The woman started yelling that she was going to have "her man" come to the restaurant to sort out her order, prompting an employee, believed to be Joshua, to refund her $40 and ask her to leave. The woman waited in the parking lot in her black sedan for a few minutes before driving away and returning with Rodriguez-Tormes, who was driving a white truck.

Rodriguez-Tormes proceeded to demand that Joshua fight him, deputies said. During the ensuing altercation, he got the 22-year-old into a headlock and started choking him, only to be separated by a witness who intervened to stop the fight.

The 37-year-old then went to his truck and retrieved his gun before telling Joshua, "You got two seconds before I shoot you." Shortly after, he shot Joshua and then got back into his truck before fleeing the Burger King. The woman fled in her black sedan as well.

Both of them were apprehended not long after and were questioned by deputies. While the subsequent police report was mostly redacted, it did indicate that Rodriguez-Tormes dismantled the gun he used in the shooting and placed it "in a location which cannot be located."

Social media users expressed their shock and disgust at the shooting. "Someone explain to me how people can be this depraved. I mean at what point does a person think that killing someone over a long line is the way to handle something," one wrote.

"She better be charged too...she’s just as culpable as he is...she got her refund then decided to bring her boyfriend back she knew what she was doing," another wrote.
