FORT MYERS, FLORIDA: A drunk Florida man was reportedly arrested for stabbing a woman with a broken beer bottle on Sunday, September 3.

Douglas Ferreira, 34, allegedly forced a woman out of a trailer at 3411 Broadway within the Maravilla neighborhood of Fort Myers and chased her.

What did Douglas Ferreira do?

As the woman sprinted across the street, seeking refuge near a church, Ferreira viciously stabbed her with the broken bottle.

The victim's screams caught the attention of onlookers, including eyewitness Sharon Mossman, who said, “I could hear a woman screaming like she was being murdered."

She continued, “The man when he saw me on the street, he took the woman and just shoved her in the trailer and closed the door.”

Later, as Mossman encountered the pair again, she noticed Ferreira armed not only with the broken beer bottle but also brandishing a firearm.

Mossman said, "He chased her out the back gate and she ran over to the Muslim church and hid."

However, before the woman could find sanctuary inside the church, Ferreira stabbed her with the bottle, inflicting a deep laceration measuring approximately four inches.

Swiftly, paramedics arrived on the scene, providing immediate medical attention to the victim before transporting her to a hospital.

How was Douglas Ferreira caught?

Law enforcement officials reported that Ferreira discarded the bottle into a bush nearby before forcing himself into a neighbor's trailer to evade capture, per NBC2.com

Todd Wiedenfeller, another eyewitness, said, "It was an exciting Sunday morning, that's for sure."

Wiedenfeller shared that when SWAT teams arrived on the scene, he instinctively grabbed his phone and began recording the events.

“I didn’t want to miss anything. There was probably a dozen of ’em here and their guns were out,” he remarked.

A resident in the trailer where Ferreira sought refuge contacted their landlord, who promptly alerted law enforcement officers.

Deputies apprehended Ferreira, although it was noted that he was severely inebriated, rendering him unable to provide a coherent statement. Currently, he is out on bond.

Mossman expressed shock upon learning of Ferreira's release. She said, “Dear God in Heaven, I’m going to call everyone and warn them I did not know he was out of jail — he’s crazy, I’ve seen him do crazy things over there".

Ferreira faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His arrest record indicated that he resided with the woman he was accused of assaulting, though the nature of their relationship remains unclear.

The victim herself conveyed to deputies that she had no understanding of the motive behind Ferreira's brutal attack.
