43-year-old Florida man who stabbed girlfriend with 12-inch spear during argument gets arrested

HALLANDALE BEACH, FLORIDA: A Florida man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend after she was impaled by a spear during an argument.

Adam Reechard Crespo, 43, has been accused in the death of Silvia Galva, 32, after she was fatally stabbed with a spear with a 12-inch, double-sided blade at a Hallandale Beach Condominium on July 12, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

When officers responded to the scene that night, they found Galva on a bedroom floor, bleeding from her chest as one of her female friends desperately tried to save her life.

She was not breathing and did not have a pulse when officers transported her to Aventura Hospital, where she pronounced dead.

Medical staff told police that the spear had pierced her sternum at an angle and that there was a wound to her back that was consistent with a puncture.

When questioned about the incident, Crespo told investigators that he, Galva, and the girlfriend who eventually tried to save her had gone out to the Diplomat Beach Resort Hollywood that night for an hour or so before returning to the condominium, which he co-owns.

After Galva and Crespo retired to their bedroom an argument soon ensued. The 43-year-old man said her female friend had been drinking and he asked her to leave the room, but she refused.

Then he grabbed her ankle and began pulling her off the bed.

This is when, in order to prevent Crespo from removing her,  Galva grabbed onto the wooden shaft of the spear that was at the foot of the bed.

The man told officers as he turned away from his wife and continued yanking on her ankles, the weapon snapped and penetrated her chest.

He also said that he pulled the weapon out "hoping it was not too bad" and asked the female friend to call 911.

In their report, police said Crespo's actions caused Galva to grab the spear to keep herself on the bed. The force that he used to remove the weapon caused it to pierce her "in an unknown way" and eventually killed her.

Crespo is facing a charge of murder without premeditation in connection to his girlfriend's death.

Speaking about the case, his lawyer, William DiRenzo said, "There are a lot of unanswered questions at this point. Our hope is once the investigation is complete, he will be exonerated."

The 43-year-old is being held on a bond of $65,000 and has been ordered to wear a GPS monitor that will allow him to travel to work in the scenario he is released before his trial.

He was also been ordered to submit to random drug and alcohol testing and surrender his passport.
