Dominic Johnson: Florida high school football coach accused of raping teen goddaughter
MIAMI, FLORIDA: The assistant football coach of Miami Carol City Senior High School, Dominic Johnson, 36, has been accused of raping his 16-year-old goddaughter, police said. Johnson was arrested Monday, September 20, at the premises on a charge of sexual battery of a minor by an adult, reports cited. Johnson, who is also a security monitor at the high school, has worked there for 11 years.
According to arrest reports, Johnson "denied the allegations" of raping his teen goddaughter at his North Miami-Dade home on Sunday, September 19, after he was taken into custody. A similar incident was reported in June 2021 when a high school teacher from Indiana was fired after he was arrested for inappropriately touching his students in a school bathroom and repeatedly passing comments of sexual nature in the classroom. In May 2021, an Alabama teacher shot herself dead, two days after getting arrested on rape and sodomy charges. In two different Ohio cases, two teachers were sentenced for having sex with minors. One of them is a 29-year-old teacher, recently jailed for 54-months for having sex with two teenage boys in a hotel room. The other teacher was given a four-year jail sentence for having sex with a 14-year-old boy with behavioral issues.

According to the reports, the girl told cops Johnson raped her in a bathroom in his home. "If I had the choice, I would have never spoken to him in the first place. He ruined me, he gained my trust and he broke it, " she told WSVN. The girl and her family immediately went to the police after the alleged attack. Recalling the ordeal, the girl said, "He forced himself onto me, he didn’t let me out of the bathroom. He raped me."
According to the teen's mother, Johnson was once considered to be a part of the family. "You were supposed to be her protector. You failed us, you failed the community, coach," she said.
Johnson was ordered held on $25,000 bond, which he posted late Tuesday, September 21, reports say. Meanwhile, the school authorities have started the procedure to terminate Johnson's employment.
"Miami-Dade County Public Schools is deeply disturbed to learn about the circumstances that led to this individual’s arrest. The allegations are reprehensible and unsettling, and will not be taken lightly," district officials said in a statement. Johnson has been ordered to stay away from the teen and her family. It is not clear at the moment if he has hired an attorney. Johnson's neighbors said Tuesday, September 21, that they were shocked to hear the accusations against him.
