Ron DeSantis slammed for likening school reopening to Home Depot or Walmart visit: ‘It’s death wish’

'If you can do home depots if you can do Walmart if you can do these things, we can absolutely do schools,' said the Florida Governor

Only a few days ago, Twitter saw ‘56 Florida’ trend as the ICUs hit their capacity, owing to the surging Covid-19 cases. The global pandemic continues to grip the world, with the majority of the nations struggling to cope with its dire circumstances. While many countries across the world are still following the lockdown protocol strictly, some parts of the United States, especially Florida, allowed people to access its beaches, which resulted in a spike in the coronavirus cases within a matter of few days.

Amid the growing fear of succumbing to the deadly virus, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made a statement about reopening schools, which has obviously irked the public. DeSantis was at Jaxport on Thursday, July 9, to discuss the state’s fight against the novel coronavirus. After talking about creating more number of dedicated testing labs, he addressed the thought of reopening schools.

DeSantis is heard, saying, “If you can do home depots if you can do Walmart if you can do these things, we can absolutely do schools.” Twitter users were quick to take to the platform to react to the statement by DeSantis, specifically trending hope depot for comparing it with going to school.

While one user wrote, “If you go in home depot you must have a death wish.” Another added, “Gov @RonDeSantisFL says since adults can go to Home Depot & Walmart, schools are ready to reopen for kids. With the CDC reporting 200,000+ COVID cases in #Florida, schools were ordered to reopen for regular, in-person education. That makes as much sense as Trump being president.”

Some trolled him for the same by tweeting, “Yes, when I go to Home Depot, I always sit in a fairly confined space with 25 other people for a sustained period of time.” Adding to the previous tweet another user wrote, “Since we all go to Home Depot and sit tightly bunched in the duct tape aisle with 37 peers for 40 hours a week, this comparison makes perfect sense.”

While another user tweeted, “Ron DeSantis 100% is right. If you can go to Walmart, Home Depot & I will add; allow your 14 year old to riot on the street for BLM, they can go to school too. Death rate for people under 18 is virtually ZERO. Get kids back to school now #ReopeningSchools”
