On September 29 the much-awaited first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden took place and there was no dearth of ‘memorable’ moments. It was chaotic, full of disruptions and never-ending accusations as Trump and Biden faced each other. Moderator Chris Wallace questioned both the parties on a series of topics in the debate, which lasted for an hour-and-a-half. From the Supreme Court to the economy and the pandemic – a lot of important topics were discussed.

Biden's vice president pick Kamala Harris appeared on MSNBC’s 11th Hour hosted by Brian Williams and discussed the event. When asked about the debate, Harris said, “America was presented with a very clear choice. On one hand you have Joe Biden, who has experience, poise, grace, speaks with intelligence and speaks directly to the camera – to American people about their situation. On the other hand, you have an angry, defensive Donald Trump who spent full time interrupting, attempting to bully the process, including the moderator.”

She continued, “When I watched the debate, I’ll have to tell you Brian, I couldn’t help but think about the people around the world who are watching the debate. And, people have mentioned it on this network, just minutes ago… but what Donald Trump has done continuously since he has been in office, including tonight – debase the office of the President of the United States.  And, that is our office. Not his office. That’s the people’s office.” She added, “I think, the American people, during this debate had a clear contrast in terms of what they got and what is possible – what they can have, if they vote.”

Harris tweeted the video clip and wrote: “Tonight, America was presented with a choice: a leader who offers a clear path forward vs. an angry, interrupting bully.”

During the show, she also commented, "Donald Trump is not pretending to be anything than what he is. Someone who will not condemn white supremacists, someone who cannot say the phrase ‘Black Lives Matter’, someone who is getting rid of training federal employees around the issue of race and the need to be aware of implicit bias.”

During the debate, Trump was asked by the moderator: "Are you willing to condemn White supremacists and militia groups?" For a long time, he didn't straightaway answer the question. "I would say almost everything I see is from the left-wing, not the right-wing," Trump responded. "I'm willing to do anything. I want to see peace." When pressed further, Trump said, "What do you want to call them? Give me a name. Give me a name?" Finally, he said, "Proud Boys — Stand back, stand by, but I'll tell you what, somebody's got to do something about Antifa and the left because this is not a right-wing problem... This is a left-wing problem."

Harris' tweet had a lot of Twitter users weigh in with their opinions. One user said, “For everyone complaining about the debate....think very hard about who on that stage had no civility, no empathy, no remorse, no plan, no regard for the truth, no honor, no ability to follow the rules, no kindness in their words, no love for this country. Then......go vote!” Another commented, “I've never seen a presidential debate disintegrate like this one did tonight. It mirrors what has occurred in our country over the past 4 years. It must end at the ballot box. Four more years of this will completely destroy our country.” A user wrote, “Thank you Kamala! Thanks for being the voice of reason and bringing some balance to what was a chaotic, and sometimes confusing night. All the best for next week. You’re going to trounce Pence!”

There were others who had a different opinion. One claimed, “Kamala Harris has done multiple interviews tonight in an attempt to clean up Biden's disastrous performance. In every single interview she REFUSED to say whether or not a Harris-Biden admin would support court packing. The American people deserve answers!” Another said, “No, I don't think so. Joe looks so weak and old. No clear vision and plan for America that I heard from debate.” One pointed out, “Joe said shut up and other things not debate material.”
