First Presidential Debate 2020: Chris Wallace slammed for debating Trump, Internet calls moderator a 'disgrace'

Many thought that he had no control over the debate despite being the moderator and instead he allowed Trump to continue yelling

'Fox News Sunday' anchor Chris Wallace opened the 2020 Presidential debate between President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden on Tuesday, September 29, in Cleveland. This is the first of the three debates between Trump and Biden. As soon as the debate started, people started slamming him as the debate devolved into a three-way slugfest, that included moderator Wallace.

"You’re debating him, not me," Wallace said, gesturing towards Democratic challenger Joe Biden, as Trump protested that his administration’s repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate constituted a plan of his own. As Biden simply stood by, Trump and Wallace repeatedly talked over each other. "Mr President I'm the moderator of this debate and I'd like you to let me ask my question," Wallace said. "I guess I'm debating you, not him," Trump shot back. Trump has previously expressed frustration with Wallace and Fox News Network, believing the network should not be critical of his administration.

As soon as the debate became a "threeway" thing, people started slamming Wallace and demanded a new moderator, as one Internet user wrote, "We need a moderator ASAP! Cuz Chris Wallace sucks. #Debates2020 #debates #PresidentialDebate2020 #kidvicioys," while another one wrote, "What is Chris Wallace doing? He has no control over this debate. He asks a question and lets Trump continue yelling. This is a disgrace."

Some called Wallace a disgrace and wrote, "#ChrisWallace, this is a disgrace. A moderator enforces the rules. That’s the point of having a moderator," while some said, "Trump is losing his s**t at Chris Wallace again. Wallace is now pleading with Trump to actually let someone speak besides himself. #Debate2020."

Some called the senior Journalist "powerless" and wrote, "It’s pathetic how #ChrisWallace is begging, pleading, practically crawling on his knees to get #Trump to stop interrupting. #Wallace is powerless. The whole thing is a nightmare."

While some thought that Wallace is doing it intentionally to save Trump and said, "Chris Wallace is now regurgitating illegal leaks peddled by the Biden campaign and the New York Times about Trump's taxes and lies about how much he paid in taxes.
