Delphi murders: First picture of Richard Allen released after arrest in connection to double killing
DELPHI, INDIANA: The first picture of the man who was arrested by Indiana police under the suspicion of carrying out the gruesome double killing of Liberty German and Abigail Williams in 2017 has been revealed.
The prime suspect, identified as 50-year-old Richard Allen, was booked in Indiana on Friday, October 28. He was taken into custody at the Carroll County Jail in Delphi before being moved to a state facility out of fear for his safety. However, the precise charges Allen faces have not been revealed and are not contained in the available jail listings, according to Law & Crime. Additional information about Allen’s arrest is set to be revealed during a police press conference on Monday.

Roughly a day after Allen’s arrest, local media outlet FOX 59 published what it called “a state-issued photo” of the potential predator. The image released by the outlet bears some likeness to a sketch of the potential killer released by Delphi officials in 2017. The picture captures a bearded, pale face Allen with a shaved head. A source close to Allen, who requested to be anonymous, told The Sun that Allen worked in town presumably as an employee at a CVS. "The people who worked with him had no clue and were just as surprised as everyone else. They’re all just really hoping that there’s some kind of a mistake in that it isn’t him,” a source told the Sun. "But at the same time if it is him, they hope there is solid proof because everybody wants to see this come to an end. There’s just a lot of mixed emotions."

Another source of the outlet revealed that they witnessed some police activity at Allen’s home just before his arrest on Friday. The Carroll County District Attorney's office and sheriff's office haven't officially announced any other details about the arrest. But the officials confirmed that the arrest is made in connection with the murder of German, 14, and Williams, 13, who suspiciously went missing while going for a walk along an abandoned train line in Delphi, Indiana, on February 13, 2017.
The savaged bodies of the pair were located the following day along Deer Creek, about a quarter of a mile east of the Monon High Bridge. The Delphi Police have since been tight-lipped on crucial developments in the investigation of the high-profile murder and never disclosed how the girls died. They only divulged that the pair had been arranging to meet a man on the abandoned tracks.
They later revealed that the girls' bodies were "posed" and that the suspect, who has yet to be officially identified by cops, had undisclosed trophies taken from each victim. At that time, officials also released key evidence in the case, including photos from Libby's phone and audio where an unidentified man tells the girls, "Down the hill".
In the years since the murders, police have released two different sketches of potential suspects. Despite countless tips over the years and a number of suspects and persons of interest, police have so far been unable to solve the case. But the investigators feel this arrest can be a major turning point.
