With the summer finally here, the latest exciting scoop for fans is Searchlight Pictures bringing an original and modern-day queer romantic comedy-drama film ‘Fire Island’. ‘Fire Island’ is an upcoming queer-themed romantic comedy film directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Andrew Ahn. The film has been loosely inspired by the iconic author Jane Austen’s bestselling novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’. The film has been produced by Searchlight Pictures. The script of the film has been written by Joel Kim Booster.

The awaited queer romantic comedy-drama film ‘Fire Island’ is releasing digitally on June 3, 2022, on Hulu at 3:01 am EST.

What is the plot of ‘Fire Island’?

The film ‘Fire Island’ is a summer tale with a fresh spin and heartwarming queer twists loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’. The film revolves around two best friends Noah (Joel Kim Booster) and Howie (Bowen Yang). The duo kicks off their much-awaited week-long memorable vacation to the ‘Fire Island’ which is a really hot and popular gay destination that’s situated not too far away from Long Island’s southern shore. We know that fans are going to love watching this wild trip of the two best friends on the ‘Fire Island’.

In the trailer of the film, we can see how Noah wakes up from his sleepy stupor to a number of missed calls on his phone and immediately gets ready to catch the ferry to Fire Island. There we see how tight-knit the friendship between Noah and Howie is, where the duo are seen hugging each other. We see brief glimpses of Fire Island in its summer glory with beachside parties, excessive drinking, and loads of gay summer romance as well.

The official synopsis for ‘Fire Island’ reads, “A group of queer best friends gather in the Fire Island Pines for their annual week of love and laughter, but when a sudden change of events jeopardizes their summer in gay paradise, their bonds as a chosen family are pushed to the limit”.

Joel Kim Booster as Noah

The 34-years-old American star, comedian, and writer Joel Kim Booster has been well-known for being the writer behind hit shows like ‘Billy on the Street’, ‘Big Mouth’ and ‘Other Two’.  Joel has also given some amazing performances in the Youtube original film ‘Viper Club’. He has also acted in the Netflix comedy film ‘The Week Of’, followed by Hulu’s television comedy series ‘Shrill’ alongside the NBC comedy series ‘Sunnyside’. Joel is going to be seen essaying the lead role of Noah in Hulu’s queer-themed romantic gay comedy film ‘Fire Island’.



 

The other actors in the cast of ‘Fire Island’ include Bowen Yang, Margaret Cho, James Scully, Conrad Ricamora, and several others.

Latest news about ‘Fire Island’

Not many know about this but the film ‘Fire Island’ was being planned and developed for the past three years. Initially titled ‘Trip’, this coming of age queer rom-com series which had been created, written, and also starred Joel himself was in works by the now-defunct streaming television network Quibi. In March 2020, Trip received a series order with Jax Media responsible for its production. Initially, the series was going to be directed by Stephen Dunn.

After Quibi’s shutdown in December 2020, the series again got delayed but it was in last year June 2021, that Searchlight Pictures officially got Joel’s script and turned it into a feature film titled ‘Fire Island’ and then Andrew Ahn came on board as director replacing Stephen Dunn which is when the production of the film started again.

What makes ‘Fire Island’ really stand out in the crowd of queer-themed films is that its entire cast is filled with LGBTQ+ actors.
