But now here comes a much-awaited food-based dark comedy thriller that is about to blow the audience’s minds. Searchlight Pictures is bringing forth an intriguing culinary-themed dark horror-thriller drama film ‘The Menu’. The film has been directed by Mark Mylod. The storyline has been written by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy. The film has been produced by Adam McKay and Betsy Koch of Hyperobject Industries.

The star cast for ‘The Menu’ includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Siennes, Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, Judith Light, Reed Birney, Paul Adelstein and several others. What is the plot of ‘The Menu’?

From the trailer itself, we can say that ‘The Menu’ is a dark culinary-themed horror-thriller revolving around food with glimpses of horrors like a murder, nature’s storm and many disturbing incidents on the coastal island retreat hotel which change the happy atmosphere into a nightmare for the guests. The unsettling and dark cult atmosphere seen in the trailer only makes ‘The Menu’ more riveting and gritty.

The plot of the film revolves around Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) who are a couple. They come to a coastal island at this exclusive restaurant to savor the scrumptious food. Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) is preparing meals for guests which has some unexpected ‘shocking surprises’ on the menu. The trailer also gives a hint at how all the guests have varied levels of understanding about the kind of retreat hotel they all are into which is clear when a guest seated in the hotel says, ‘We’re eating the ocean’.

The official synopsis reads, “A couple (Taylor-Joy and Hoult) travels to a coastal island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the chef (Fiennes) has prepared a lavish menu, with some shocking surprises”.

Anya Taylor-Joy as Margot

The 26-years-old Emmy nominated starlet, Anya Taylor-Joy started her career with a horror film ‘The Witch’. Since then, she has given some of the finest performances in hit Netflix shows like ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ and so on. She is also known for her performances in the ‘Split’ horror trilogy films. She was also seen in the Netflix fantasy series ‘The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance’. Joy is going to be seen playing the lead role of Margot in ‘The Menu’.



 

The rest of the actors in the film include Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Siennes, Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, Judith Light, Reed Birney, Paul Adelstein and several others.

Who are the creators of 'The Menu'?

The film has been directed by Emmy award-winning director Mark Mylod. Mark’s work for Emmy award-winning series ‘Succession’ and ‘Entourage’ has been loved by audiences. The script of ‘The Menu’ has been written by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy. Both Seth and Will have been ‘The Onion’ alums who’ve previously also worked with Mark on ‘Succession’. The film has been produced by Adam McKay and Betsy Koch of Hyperobject Industries.

Latest news about ‘The Menu’ film

The film has been shot entirely in Savannah (Georgia). Interestingly, the award-winning stars Alexander Payne and Emma Stone were originally involved in this film project but they both, later on, walked out of the film due to the scheduling issues and conflicts. This is when Mark Mylod replaced Alexander Payne as the director for the film.
