Fiona Apple's new album 'Fetch the Bolt Cutters' has fans raving over how raw and sublime it sounds

This is the indie singer-songwriter's first new music in over eight years since 'The Idler Wheel...' was released back in 2012 and fans agree that it was definitely worth the wait

Songstress Fiona Apple is one of those darlings of the indie-pop music scene who is fiercely independent in her approach to songwriting and speaks her heart out.

Whether it be in interviews or through the lyrics of her songs, Apple is never one to shy away from exposing her vulnerabilities. The 42-year-old singer recently unveiled her latest full-length musical endeavor, 'Fetch The Bolt Cutters' after eight years of radio silence.

The beckoning nature of the album title is an homage to a Gillian Anderson line from the BBC drama 'The Fall'. Anderson's character utters the terse phrase after arriving at the locked door of a room where a girl has been tortured.

As can be ascertained by the title, the feminist themes of the album deal with self-reliance, liberation and empowerment, and it's also extremely raw and percussive in nature, employing basic handclaps all the way to numerous instruments and utensils being hit against surfaces and objects.

Even more exhilarating is the fact that Apple completely lets loose on this album, sampling everything from stomps, chants, breathing, backing vocals and "meows" of model/singer Cara Delevingne and the barking of five separate dogs.

Understandably, after such a long wait, and on hearing something this fierce and unbridled in nature, fans were over the moon after listening to the incredible new record.

Most of Fiona's followers were united in the belief that this was probably her strongest effort yet and were excitedly raving about how great it sounds on social media.

"Happy Fiona Apple day, I am reborn," said one grateful fan. Another tweeted, "Fiona Apple is someone who would be considered extraordinary based on her vocal talents alone, well lucky for all of us she's also one of the most brilliant songwriters of all time." Others were saying, "The new Fiona Apple album is f**king fire!"

"Woke up to a new Fiona Apple album, how does she release another 10/10 bruh." said another dumbfounded fan.  Even hard-to-please critics were getting in on the action.

"Pitchfork just gave their first perfect 10 in almost a decade to Fiona Apple," said a thrilled listener, referring to the music publication that once famously released a wordless review of a Jet album with just a video of a monkey urinating into its own mouth.

This release comes at a perfect time for many people who are stuck at home without quality entertainment, as evidenced by this earnest statement on Twitter: "The new Fiona Apple album is a spectacle worth every second of its eight-year wait. At least we still have art like this."

So let's sit back and enjoy this new album as it was meant to be enjoyed, with closed eyes and wide-open ears — when it comes to matters of the heart, the once and future queen has returned to reclaim her throne.
