‘Files of the Unexplained’: What caused Oakville Blobs? Netflix docuseries examines the mysterious gelatinous blobs

OAKVILLE, WASHINGTON: The cause of the Oakville Blobs' descent still remains a mystery in Washington, despite extensive research.

Scientists have conducted thorough investigations to determine the origin and composition of the mysterious gelatinous substance. However, no conclusive explanation has been reached, leaving the phenomenon shrouded in uncertainty.

The new Netflix docuseries 'Files of the Unexplained' features this enigmatic throwback. On the morning of August 7, 1994, people were alarmed as small, gelatinous globs of goo rained down

These gooey blobs poured down heavily, covering an area of 20 square miles, and caused quite a commotion. It seemed like a strange phenomenon, almost like a plague, as the gooey substance coated everything it touched.

Sunny Barclift, featured on the Netflix docuseries, investigated the mysterious blobs herself. She shared a personal story about her mother experiencing a strange virus attack after accidentally touching the blobs. This incident highlighted the potential dangers associated with coming into contact with the mysterious substance.

Later in the investigation, it was discovered that the blobs contained human white blood cells, which surprised many researchers. Although the blobs lacked nuclei, the presence of cells added to their mystery.

What were Oakville Blobs made of?

When examined under a microscope, hospital technicians discovered that the blobs contained human white blood cells, which are used by the body to fight infection. This finding was strange but not enough to explain why so many people fell ill.

Samples were then sent to the Washington State Department of Health and Departments of Ecology for further analysis.

The Department of Health did not find white blood cells in the samples. Instead, they identified two species of bacteria: pseudomonas fluorescens and enterobacter cloacae. There has been significant debate about whether these bacteria could have caused the numerous health problems reported by those who came into contact with the blobs.

Where did Oakville Blobs fall from?

The mysterious blobs found in Oakville have puzzled researchers and locals alike, sparking various theories about their origin.

Some speculate that the blobs may have fallen from airplanes passing overhead, while others suggest they could be remnants of industrial waste dumped in the area.

Another theory posits that the blobs might be the remains of jellyfish that evaporated and then fell as precipitation. Despite these theories, the true source of the blobs remains elusive and difficult to confirm.

What happened to Oakville Blobs samples in the end?

Over time, the samples of the mysterious blobs gradually disappeared, as researchers and investigators conducted frequent testing on them.

As more and more tests were performed, the samples were depleted until they ultimately ran out. Due to this depletion, the blob samples no longer exist, making it impossible to conduct further analysis or investigations into their origin or composition.

"Eventually the samples were consumed by testing until we just simply ran out. We would never be able to identify the substance," Sunny shared on Netflix.
