'Fear the Walking Dead' Season 6: If Morgan Jones is truly dead then who is the man who's taken his place?

Morgan Jones has a new lease on life and possibly an all-new identity. Will this be enough to take down Victora for good?

Though the hows and whys of Morgan Jones's (Lennie James) survival have yet to be answered, there's a much more pressing question that Episode 2 needs to resolve - who is Morgan Jones now? After his near-death experience, 'Fear the Walking Dead' opened up its sixth season with a close look at Morgan finding a new resolve for himself, and for the future. Dead but not quite dying, Morgan found he had something new to live for - and a brief radio call with Virginia (Colby Minifie) shows that he's considering a whole new life entirely. Morgan Jones, he said, is dead - so what is it that remains?

Armed with a deadly new ax, replacing his longtime walking stick, and freshly healed from the bullet wound in his chest, the man who was Morgan Jones is looking better than ever, renewed with vigor and purpose. For now, he's got one goal - finding the rest of the survivors he's come to know, many of whom are still in Virginia's clutches. He's not been able to take her down before, but as things stand, he just might be.

Another question worth asking is whether or not he still has that "stench of death" around him. Last episode, the rot from his gangrenous wounds proved to come in quite handy when it made the walkers around him completely ignore his presence – not that that stopped him from picking a fight with them anyway. With Virginia's bullet extracted, however, and he presumably cleaned up somewhat, his renewed sense of life might have lost him a significant advantage. As trade-offs go, however, it's not a bad one, especially as covering oneself in zombie's guts tends to have the same effect.

AMC's trailer for the next episode takes a look at the survivors still in captivity, and show's Morgan attempting to figure out what the mysterious key he found on the bounty hunter unlocks. The official synopsis for the episode reads, "Virginia forces Alicia and Strand to clear an unusual walker threat, where an encounter with a new ally gives Strand an idea that could be the key to their freedom."
