Spoilers for 'Fear the Walking Dead' Season 6 Episode 5 'Honey'

'Fear the Walking Dead' continues to tease out the mystery of the keys — this time with a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in the background of one of the scenes on the latest episode. Seen placed on a map is what appears to be strategic locations and their appearance has some major implications as to just what the keys are for and how they can be used for, or against, the inevitable coming war against Virginia (Colby Minifie) and her Pioneers.

The keys were first introduced in Episode 1 of Season 6, with one wrapped around the neck of one of Virginia's most trusted bounty hunters. This man was taken out by Morgan (Leslie Jones), who decided to keep the key for himself — and has since run afoul of an enigmatic cult who tried to kill him in order to obtain the key.

Morgan still doesn't know what his key unlocks or even where to start looking for answers. Of course, he might have some idea if he was still living in Lawton with the rest of his group, as other episodes have shown us that keys are awarded to trusted Rangers — ones like John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) and Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), who've been told the key unlocks privilege, status and, more importantly, they're an important tool in a war that Virginia's preparing for.

On the latest episode of 'Fear the Walking Dead', we see a map in the background that is covered in keys. This map is inside the armored van that a group of anti-Pioneer outcasts stole from Virginia. From the look of the map, the keys seem to mark important locations around the area.

Given that we've seen multiple keys throughout the series, this appears to confirm that there isn't just one location keeping its goods locked up — there are several, and Virginia and her Rangers are keeping track of them all. This means that though Morgan, Strand and John have their own keys, they're not going to be able to deprive Virginia of her prizes so easily. Whatver the Pioneers are hiding, they have enough of it to be able to scatter throughout the area.

This makes a lot of sense if they are, indeed, weapons that only the Rangers have access to. If one location is compromised, they're still very well armed at all the other locations they have on their maps. However, it's also possible that there's only one unit of whatever it is that the keys unlock and that all the other locations are merely decoys.

This might make the key around Morgan's neck even more important, if it's the only true key behind unlocking whatever Virginia is hiding. Whatever the case, there's still too little to go on but the mystery continues to unfold, episode after episode.

The next episode of 'Fear the Walking Dead' airs on November 15 at 9 pm ET on AMC.
