Spoilers for Fargo Season 4 Episode 8

'Fargo' Season 4, Episode 8 is a massacre in one too many ways. If you haven't had a chance to watch the episode, we suggest you proceed with caution.

When Timothy Olyphant had been credited as a recurring role in 'Fargo' Season 4, fans had expected that the cop who had been recently transferred to Kansas might not make it to the other side of the season. Just as expected Deafy didn't. However, what was not expected was that the man would get dead right after his best scene in the season. That one on one with Loy Cannon as he spoke of what it means to be a good family man vs who Loy really is -- a criminal, was impressive. It was impressive still to call Loy's hypocrisy out as he asked which good family man would trade his son in for power as he did with Satchel. Of course, at the moment Loy, who craves to exact revenge for his son's death doesn't appreciate the comment. He is neither too foolish to lash out at Deafy right away. We have already learned that Loy is not someone who can be trapped easily.

Instead, what we see is Loy explain why it is not possible for him to betray Roulette and Capps and how the two women had sought and were promised his protection. Yes, they did steal Loy's money at one point, which had ended up back in his hands, but that is no reason to not think of a larger picture. After Deafy leaves, he arrives at the station where he is confronted by Odis (Jack Huston) about how his ticks are more to do with self-esteem than anything else and also calls to Deafy to let him finally become a police officer all the way. Of course, the entire deal looked suspicious from the get go and we are proven right when Odis tells Deafy that he was ordered by Loy to kill Roulette and Capps before Deafy gets a chance to arrest them and he wants no part of it.

He claims that he only took the extra cash to feel unafraid. So if given a chance, he explains he wants to be a cop all the way. He tells Deafy where Roulette and Capps are and at that time the partners who happen to be lovers too are at the Union Station, ready to leave town. The only person who knows where the two are, happens to be Loy and when Roulette sees Deafy, she knows she has been betrayed. At the same time, Capps also sees Mr Snowman, the mean old man she had seen after she was poisoned by Oraetta. We know, something wicked waits ahead of this scene. While Deafy had rushed in with his team, Odis was scared witless and he was in the car trying to talk himself into entering the station. We see Roulette and Capps share a kiss, as if they knew it would be their last and right after, they swing their guns and shoot at everything in the way. The massacre gives the cops reason to shoot at the women and when Odis finally walks in, he sees a river of bodies.

He then reaches further inside and sees the two women having surrendered to Deafy. One would wonder what Odis would choose and turns out he is not ready to break his ties with the underworld. He shoots Deafy first and when Capps and Roulette look at him surprised, he also shoots Capps, he tries to shoot at Roulette too, but she escapes and runs out as if she is ready to take on anyway standing in her way. She is certainly going to be looking for revenge for her lover's death and how she is going to plan something like that against Loy is something we cannot wait to see unfold.

Fans were heartbroken that they had to bid goodbye to Timothy Olyphant so soon, but also realized how his end was not that surprising. One fan wrote on Reddit, "I'm still processing the loss of Deafy right after probably his best scene." Another fan wrote, "Deafy was such a great character. Adios amigo." One fan however wondered what was Odis' plan in case the witnesses weren't killed beforehand and asked, "So Loy told him to kill Deafy and the girls but what was the plan in the extremely likely case every other officer or witness wasn’t dead?" Fans then speculated, "He probably just wanted the girls dead, but since they had already surrendered he had to kill Deafy first." Another had a similar thought and wrote, "Maybe Loy told him to kill the women and killing Deafy was just collateral damage in order to do it?" Another fan simply said, "What a waste of Timothy Olyphant. Not nearly enough screen time."
