Fans call for Bob Menendez's suspension after Fox Sean Hannity reports NJ Senator's remark on resigning amid corruption charges

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On Monday, September 25, 2023, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, who had been facing federal corruption charges linked to alleged bribe acceptance, declared that he would not resign.

This comes after Menendez was indicted on charges of international corruption in connection with a years-long affair in which he allegedly accepted bribes and gold bars to help three businessmen and the country of Egypt.

Following this news, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity took to X, formerly Twitter, to update his followers more on Menendez’s statement.

However, soon after Hannity’s tweet, the internet blasted Menendez as many called for him to be "suspended".

Fox News anchor Sean Hannity took to X and wrote, “*JUST IN*”

His tweet featured an article from Hannity’s official website titled “WON'T RESIGN: Menendez Says 'Those Attempting to Malign Me Don't Know the Facts' [WATCH].”

In the article, journalist Greg Price tweeted a video of Menendez's statement which read, “All I humbly ask for in this moment, from my colleagues in Congress and those I have worked with for years, as well as each person who calls New Jersey home, is to pause and allow all the facts to be presented.”

According to The New York Post, Menendez addressed allegations of providing sensitive knowledge to the Egyptian government and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Menendez exclaimed, “Throughout my time in Congress, I remained steadfast on the side of civil society and human rights defenders in Egypt, and everywhere else in the world.”

He continued, “If you look at my actions related to Egypt during the period described in this indictment, and throughout my whole career, my record is clear and consistent in holding Egypt accountable for its unjust detention of American citizens and others, its human rights abuses, its deepening relationship with Russia, and efforts that have eroded the independence of the judiciary, among a myriad of concerns.”

Adding further he said, “Those now attempting to malign my actions as it relates to Egypt simply do not know the facts.”

Internet slams Bob Menendez for refusing to resign

Soon after Sean Hannity tweeted Bob Menendez's statement for "not resigning", the internet slammed him brutally. A social media person wrote, “Why can't they take off whatever he is doing and suspend him? Investigation takes place he's guilty and he's gone. What's the problem?”

One person said, “Jail time this time 😠,” while another added, “He has many more bribes to accept. Plus, his closet has room for alot more gold.”

Another called him out and said, “No one is above the law! Hope he gets a speedy trial,” while one commented, “He will be removed!”

Another wrote, “Everyone knew this guy has been corrupt for decades. Why did they take him down NOW? Who did he piss off?”
