Ex-Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson hailed for wise approach to hypothetical rematch between former POTUS and Joe Biden
WASHINGTON, DC: Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, who once worked in former president Donald Trump's administration, stirred a social media storm by urging Americans to cast their votes in favor of President Joe Biden in the 2024 election if they wished to safeguard democracy.
When questioned by MSNBC's Jen Psaki on Monday, November 20, 2023, about her stance in a hypothetical Trump-Biden rematch, Hutchinson made her position clear.
"I will say that my door is completely shut to voting for Donald Trump," Hutchinson asserted.
"And the only reason that I will not endorse a candidate right now is because I still am hopeful that Donald Trump does not end up being the nominee next year. I think our country will be in a much better place overall. But what I will say, too, though, is I think everybody should vote for Joe Biden if they want our democracy to survive," she added.

Social media reacts to Cassidy Hutchinson's remarks
Social media quickly became a battleground of opinions in response to Hutchinson's statement. Many on social media nodded in agreement with Hutchinson and praised her courage.
"Wow, Cassidy actually sounds frightened at the concept of Trump being President, 'If they want Democracy to survive'! I believe her," one posted on X (formerly Twitter).
"Cassidy is such an unsung hero. Her courage and integrity are some of the biggest reasons we were able to first see the whole truth - the real facts that GOP leadership was lying about. She put America before herself. History books should teach her name forever," another gushed.
"Good for Cassidy Hutchinson. Smart young lady who has done a major service to this country," one comment read.

However, not everyone was convinced, with skeptics questioning Hutchinson's motives.
"Cassidy got a payoff....didn't she profit from a "book deal"? I don't slightly trust anything that comes out of her mouth!" one fumed.
"Solid like the rest of your material. I heard a guy who heard a guy who heard a guy," another quipped.
"Of course, she would say that…lol…people act like lady is so profound…she hasn’t revealed anything new," someone else noted.
"There are always some negative people inside any administration. I'll go with Trump's track record versus Biden's any day," another chimed in.

Addressing colleagues' concerns
During her interview with Psaki, Hutchinson also addressed the concerns of the former Trump aide colleagues who hesitate to publicly speak out against a potential second Trump term.
She referred to a Washington Post article quoting a former official expressing willingness to speak out if it could make a difference but fearing repercussions.
"I do understand a fear of retribution... I do understand their fear of backlash,'" Hutchinson said, adding, "But when we think about this next election in 2024, I don't like to play a doomsday hypothesis, but it does look like he is going to be the Republican nominee as of right now."
"If Donald Trump is elected president again in 2024. I do fear that it will be the last election where we're voting for democracy because if he is elected again, I don't think that we'll be voting under the same constitution that we would be... if Joe Biden is elected in 2024," she added.
History of criticism
It's worth noting that Hutchinson's critical stance on Trump dates back to her testimony before the House January 6 committee in 2022, where she detailed Trump’s alleged actions related to the Capitol insurrection.
Her subsequent memoir, which includes damning claims about Trump and her experiences working for him, further fueled the controversy.
In a September interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Hutchinson went even further, labeling Trump as "the most grave threat we will face to our democracy in our lifetime, and potentially in American history."
Despite facing 91 felony counts across four criminal indictments, Trump maintains a significant lead in polls for the Republican presidential nomination, the Huffington Post reported.
