NONG BUA LAMPHU, THAILAND: A mass murder at a child development center in the small province of Nong Bua Lamphu has sent shockwaves around the world. It has been said that at least 31 people, including 23 children, lost their lives in the senseless crime after the accused launched a gun and knife attack on Thursday, October 6, BBC reported.

The suspect is reportedly a former police officer, named Panya Kamrab. The 34-year-old alleged mass murderer lost his job in 2021 after he was terminated because of drug-related charges, Col Natthawat Wongsanittheera of Na Want Police reportedly claimed. He also allegedly killed his own wife and child after carrying out the massacre but before he could be arrested, he shot himself down.

As per police, Kamrab attacked the child development center in northeast Thailand at around 1.30 pm in the afternoon. Reportedly, he not just fired bullets at his victims but also stabbed some of them. However, his brutality did not stop there as he went home, and murdered his family before taking his own life.

This happened just a few weeks after an army officer claimed the lives of two fellow soldiers. Sgt Maj Yongyuth Mankornkim allegedly murdered Lt Gen Nopparat Inthasunthorn and Lt Col Prakarn Sinsong in September. After being taken into custody, the accused blamed stress for his gruesome act. He was pressed with murder, attempted murder, and weapons-related violations charges.

In the aftermath of the September killings, a report stated that “the cabinet endorsed a move to prohibit people who suffer from ‘mood disorders’ from government posts. The amendment will become effective when it’s announced in the Royal Gazette. The other conditions that disqualify a person include alcoholism, drug addiction, and elephantiasis.”

This is a developing story that will be updated as more details emerge.
