Eric Trump blasts demands to cancel 'Paw Patrol' after 'Live PD' is taken down: 'These people are insane'

While the calls to cancel the kids' show started with being satirical, they soon became serious

After a number of cop shows were pulled from various networks in the wake of nationwide protests against police brutality, an army of conservatives made sarcastic calls to "defund Paw Patrol" and cancel the kids' show in a bid to mock cancel culture.

The lighthearted demands came after the show's official Twitter handle issued a statement last week calling for "black voices to be heard" following the tragic death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died in police custody on May 25, Memorial Day.

However, the animated children's cartoon about a squad of essential worker canines including Chase, a German Shepherd police dog, would have never anticipated the responses their heartfelt post would elicit online, the Daily Mail reported.

"Euthanize the police dog," the faux outrage mob demanded. "Defund the paw patrol," others echoed in jest.

One post even parodied the movie "All Dogs Go To Heaven" saying all of them do "except the class traitors in the Paw Patrol."

Meanwhile, some deemed the show pro-police "pawpaganda" while others called for Chase's immediate resignation from the Adventure Bay Police Department.

"How much will Paw Patrol be donating to bail funds?" one user quipped.

Albeit the calls to cancel the kids' show were mostly satirical, they came at a time of strained relations between tens of thousands of protesters and law enforcement officers, with demonstrations against police brutality continuing into their third week in the United States.

The outrage has resulted in the cancellation of several fictional and reality TV cop shows, with A&E taking down its flagship series 'Live P.D.' on Wednesday, June 10.

"This is a critical time in our nation’s history and we have made the decision to cease production on Live PD," the network told Deadline in a statement. "Going forward, we will determine if there is a clear pathway to tell the stories of both the community and the police officers whose role it is to serve them. And with that, we will be meeting with community and civil rights leaders as well as police departments."

The cancellation came just one day after Paramount Network took down long-running show 'Cops', another docuseries featuring the police which was canceled after a successful run of 32 seasons.

However, what started as satire took a rather bizarre turn when some Twitter users actually began demanding 'Paw Patrol' to be taken down in the wake of protests against police brutality, eliciting responses from some prominent conservative figures.

"Now the left wants to cancel 'Paw Patrol'," tweeted the president's son, Eric Trump. "These people are truly insane..."

"The rage mob is coming for PAW PATROL," conservative radio host Dana Loesch warned.

"I’m sorry, I refuse to believe this is the New York Times, and not The Onion," Fourth Watch media critic Steve Krakauer chimed in.

Former Fox News star Megyn Kelly called the phenomenon "beyond parody" while Texas Senator Ted Cruz noted how the "absurdity knows no end."

The former presidential hopeful added the hashtag #CancelCultureTargetsCartoons at the end of his message, which failed to catch on unsurprisingly.

That said, the official 'Paw Patrol' page has so far not waded into the controversy.
