'From' Episode 5 Review: Avery Konrad's Sara in focus as chapter attempts to find answers
Contains spoilers for Epix's 'From' Episode 5
As 'From' reaches the midway mark, the EPIX horror thriller has more questions than answers even as a confused and deranged Sara Myers (Avery Konrad) goes on a mission to kill Ethan. The town is now looking for answers, presumably after having witnessed deaths in recent times. Each episode has a death or two, and that adds to the list of extensive questions: How many more have to die before a solution arises. Episode 5 is Sara-centric and ends with her fate undecided.
After a blood-curdling message from whoever/whatever is controlling her to kill Ethan, Sara convulsed and has a seizure. She spends the night having a heart-to-heart with Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) and after what she calls "good girl talk", she goes on to see if she can take care of some unfinished business. Her brother, Nathan, fully aware of her condition runs to father Khatri, and the duo race to stop Sara who has already put her plan in motion to murder the child. While Ethan manages to escape, Sara unwittingly kills Nathan by slitting his throat with the scalpel and runs away into the woods.

At this stage, it is unclear if she'll make it out alive considering there are ghouls stalking and killing at dusk and night. However, one hint that suggests she escapes is her knowledge of the hiding places the townsfolk use for emergencies. Then there's also the Ethan factor. Why is killing the kid important? Could it have something to do with the visions he sees? That's the working theory at the moment. 'From' seems to have slowed down a bit, especially after the horror it showcased in the first three episodes.
With five episodes left, expect the horror-thriller to switch to another gear. It is unlikely that all of this mystery will be packed into one season, but there will be at least one part of the puzzle that will be sorted. 'From' continues to carry on with its hair-raising storyline and crisp writing. It's not a surprise that it's earned those fans and nods of appreciation from the audience that's into horror dramas.
'From' airs Sunday nights at 9 pm ET on EPIX.
