The nominations for this year's Primetime Emmys have been announced and there were some shows that were shockingly not a part of the nominations

The nominations for the 74th edition of Primetime Emmys were announced on Tuesday morning and there were a lot of surprises this time around. HBO’s ‘Succession’ led the pack with 25 nominations, including the Outstanding Drama Series. Meanwhile, ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘The White Lotus’ amassed 20-20 nods each. However, there were many shows that received universal acclaim from the critics as well as audiences but failed to make the cut in the final list of nominees.

A lot of people are surprised to see shows like ‘Yellowstone’ and ‘This Is Us’ not getting nominated for the top prizes even when they are two of the most-watched shows in the world. The Paramount show shattered all viewing records with Season 4 and garnered positive reviews and everyone thought that the show will get the due this time around, but it seems the Television Academy didn’t feel the same way.

Let’s take a look at all the shows and actors that were snubbed by the Television Academy at this year’s Emmys.

‘Yellowstone’

It is hard to understand why ‘Yellowstone’ is never on the radar of the Television academy. The show ended its fourth season earlier this year and received a lot of praise. It went on to shatter viewership records and earned the title of the most-watched TV show since 2017. But it seems, this wasn’t enough for the jury members to include the show in the nominations list.

When everyone thought that this was the year of ‘Yellowstone’, the most popular scripted series on Television didn’t receive a SINGLE nomination.

If that’s not shocking, then what is?

‘This Is Us’ and Mandy Moore

Another shocking decision by the Television Academy came when it completely shut out NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ from all the major categories. The sixth and final edition of the show received acclaim from everywhere and yet it failed to receive nominations for top prizes. The series was poised to be included in the Outstanding Drama Series, and Outstanding Directing categories. Meanwhile, Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, and Sterling K Brown were considered to be frontrunners in the acting categories.

However, the NBC series had to go home with just one nomination, and that too in the music category. Fans and critics were really shocked when they didn’t see Mandy Moore’s name in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category and slammed the TV academy for leaving such a strong performance.

No love for ‘Loki’

If there’s one Disney+ series that had the chance of receiving multiple nominations, it was ‘Loki’. But the series didn’t recent any love from the jury and wasn’t nominated for the Best Limited Series accolade. Last year, ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Boys’ received several nods and everyone believed that ‘Loki’ might repeat that sort of performance, but sadly the master manipulator couldn’t charm the jury.

Selena Gomez not nominated for ‘Only Murders in the Building’

While Steve Martin and Martin Short managed to rack up nominations at this year’s ceremony, their partner-in-crime Selena Gomez missed out on a nomination for the lead actress. To be honest, the singer-turned-actress deserved to be nominated. If Steve and Short manage to make us laugh with their antics, Gomez mesmerizes with her straight dialogue delivery. I mean, if the TV academy can recognize Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh for that disastrous final season of ‘Killing Eve’, then Selena Gomez should definitely be nominated for her work.

‘Black-ish’ gets completely shut out

‘Black-ish’ is one of the few shows that have received nominations for each of its seasons. It started in 2015 and last year, it was nominated for six accolades. However, it seems the jury didn’t find the last season as good or as impactful as the previous ones. Even the critics and audiences feel exactly the opposite, the show didn’t manage to get a single nomination for the final season and ended its run with 25 nominations over the years.

Meanwhile, the absence of Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson is also pretty shocking. They have been a force to be reckoned with and gave superlative performances this time around. So, it is quite shocking to not see ‘Black-ish’ anywhere.

‘Reservation Dogs’

It’s a travesty that a bold show like ‘Reservation Dogs’ has been overlooked by the jury members. The first season of the FX show received universal acclaim and went on to win a Peabody Award for being one of the most powerful stories told on Television. Every media outlet included the show in the top 10 lists and received nominations at the Golden Globes as well.

But the television academy thought that the show shedding a light on Indigenous Americans was not worth it and didn’t include it in any form whatsoever.

‘Pachinko’

Although ‘Squid Game’ took the world by storm with its extraordinary storytelling, it was ‘Pachinko’ that mesmerized everyone with the moving display television. The Apple TV+ Korean drama was hailed as one of the best shows of the year and everyone believed that it will receive multiple nominations for its amazingly crafted world. But, the TV academy doesn’t feel that way and completely shut the show.

Maybe they thought that having one Korean drama is fine for now.

No Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston was nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for ‘The Morning Show’ last year, and as soon as Season 2 dropped on Apple TV+, it was evident that the actress is once again going to be a nominee for the Emmys. However, something unexpected happened and the jury decided to pick Reese Witherspoon for the aforementioned accolade and not Aniston.

This is undoubtedly one of the most shocking moves made by the TV academy.

Social media is buzzed with these omissions and slammed the Television academy for overlooking such strong performance. I mean, they are right. Shows like ‘This Is Us’ and ‘Yellowstone’ deserved to be there because of how their latest editions ended. Nevertheless, it will be interesting which show takes out the most trophies.

The 74th edition of the Primetime Emmys will be taking place at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California.
