'Emergence' Finale: Will Piper find answers to all her questions about where she actually belongs?
Undeniably, the latest episode of 'Emergence' served as a game-changer for ABC's mystery-thriller series. By presenting an unexpected and jaw-dropping twist, the show has managed to garner the appreciation of its viewers.
As 'Emergence' took off on a winter break leaving us baffled, we are trying to figure out what might happen to our favorite characters, which might only be answered once the show makes a comeback.
The finale episode 'Where You Belong' saw Piper being taken away by Helen, with Benny's help. What shocked us more than Benny's betrayal of Jo was the major revelation about his true identity.
Similar to Piper, Benny and Helen are AIs too and they are after Piper to take her where they think she actually belongs.
Throughout the series, we saw Jo remain discreet about Piper. Although her intentions meant only good for the AI, the police chief's uncertainty highly bothered the robot, who was struggling to find herself while being controlled by the artificial programming and bound by some true human emotions.
Piper's unwillingness to go with Helen and Benny was evident from her reaction to their revelations. But having found someone of her kind might, in fact, help her achieve more clarity regarding her existence.
On one end there is Jo, who treats the AI as her own daughter, on the other is Emily, who is lying in a hospital bed mourning Piper's loss, while also claiming to be the little girl's mother.
Regardless of what she wants or where she wishes to be, Piper has no choice but to survive among the entities who accept her as one of their kind and also treat her as such, until Jo comes to her rescue or she finds her way out.
Maybe, Piper would have been able to deal with the circumstances better had she not gotten herself so deeply involved with humans, or if Jo didn't try to convince herself and others that the AI isn’t actually an AI.
