The last episode of ABC’s series ‘Emergence’ left us believing that the creators are on the brink of offering something huge in the upcoming episodes. With the images of the Augur Industries’ facility being burned down to the ground and Emily’s mother’s revelation about her daughter’s cryptic past deeply imprinted on our minds, we are eagerly waiting to watch what shape the fantasy-thriller is going take as it nears the end of its first season.

Episode 8 of ‘Emergence’ towards the end, in a swift move, ruled out all the possibilities we were holding on to all along. While what we were exposed to in ‘American Chestnuts’ provided a certain level of clarity, it also teased us with a few aspects that are indicative of the game turning around. For instance, we learned that there is an unknown entity above Richard Kindred and Emily, who comes across as more powerful than all the villains we’ve encountered until now.

Furthermore, the creators introduced to us another acquaintance of Emily’s from her past, who we think could be the only threat Jo might have to face to protect Piper. In the last episode, when Emily’s mother is called into the Federal station house for interrogation, she produces one of her daughter’s pictures with her roommate from college, which we just couldn’t stop thinking about.

Is Emily’s friend the actual mastermind behind all of her wicked actions? Or, is she the one who originally programmed the AI? Having had an experience with the series’ unexpected twists and turns, we can only wait for the next episode to unveil answers to the above questions.

Our expectations from the next episode titled ‘Where You Belong’ doesn’t end at that. Since ‘Emergence’ has established that there is a dominant force, way beyond Richard or Alan’s control, we can’t help but worry about the position Jo has been placed in. Is the yet to be revealed antagonist responsible for Piper’s creation? Or is it that the forerunners of Augur Industries stole the prototype from another organization, which is now avenging its loss?
