‘Emergence’ Episode 9: Will the ABC series’ effort to retain mystery hurt the story of ‘Where You Belong’?

While we expected see to a lot more suspense surrounding Piper unfold and Jo go great lengths to achieve vengeance against Emily, we were distracted from the plot by a bunch of masked men, hired by an unidentified entity, who is now treated as the focal villain.

A couple of episodes into airing and ABC’s ‘Emergence’ turned from a cloud of intrigue and nail-biting thriller to be something as dry as dust, owing to its treatment of the pivotal characters. We ought to credit the makers of the show for their creation of a brilliant female-led show, but as the thriller-mystery is nearing its end, it looks like the show is trying too hard to define itself along the above terms, which seem to have disappeared long ago.

Although the show fixes upon the usual cat and mouse game between the chief police and different villains, in the first few episodes, we got to explore some of the most powerful characters. Be it for Richard Kindred, Alan Wilkins or Emily, each one of them enthralled us with their unique characteristics, until the creators of the show thought it was a good idea to give a rather abrupt closure to the existing antagonists prior to the introduction of the so-called bigger threat, which is yet to be revealed.

Did the masterminds behind the intellectual show make a blunder by sidelining other prominent elements while trying too hard to retain only mystery? Well, that’s what it seems like to us. While we expected to see a lot more suspense surrounding Piper unfold and Jo go great lengths to achieve vengeance against Emily, we were distracted from the plot by a bunch of masked men, hired by an unidentified entity, who is now treated as the focal villain.

It’s high time ABC’s ‘Emergence’ stopped changing its baddies episode after episode as it has already caused a lot of damage. The preview of the upcoming episode ‘Where You Belong’ sees Jo come face-to-face with what is portrayed as the ultimate antagonist.

Is the new evil force in Piper’s life good enough to convince us to give the thriller series a thumbs up? Or, will the new mystery only end up hurting the next offering ‘Where You Belong’ in ways unimaginable?

We need to wait for episode 9 of ‘Emergence’, which will air on ABC on December on December 10.
