Spoiler alert for ‘Emergence’ Episode 8

Be it for watching an entire facility burned down to the ground or an AI display the most intense human emotions, Episode 8 of ‘Emergence’ took us by surprise and we can’t stop raving about the creators’ impeccable job in curating one of the best episodes of the fantasy-thriller series, with the twists and turns we least expected.

‘American Chestnut’ is a perfect amalgamation of all the elements we have been craving for since the inception of the show. Until now, Emily (Maria Dizzia) was majorly defined by her fixation with having Piper as her daughter. However, the latest episode reveals a detail from Emily’s past, which explains her true intentions with Piper (Alexa Swinton).

Emily is driven by emotions than evil intentions when it comes to Piper. During her mother’s interrogation by Jo (Allison Tollman) and the FBI, we learn that Piper is nothing but Emily’s creation of herself. A childhood picture of Emily reflects the uncanny resemblance she holds with the AI, providing better clarity concerning actions.

However, this wasn’t the jaw-dropping moment in tonight’s episode. When Jo realizes that the FBI is on the lookout for Emily, which would jeopardize all her plans, she traces Emily down, who was hiding in the Augur Industries. Just when we thought it would all come to an end with police chief arresting the computer programmer, they are faced with an unexpected and bigger threat.

A group of men break into the facility for reasons unknown and come face-to-face with Emily and Jo. However, the duo managed to escape with the use of an explosive. This exactly is what took us aback. All along we dreaded Emily and treated her as the supervillain.

But ‘American Chestnuts’ throws light on a different side to her personality, which came across as a shocker. As if this wasn’t enough, we were exposed to bigger threats, which could possibly destroy everybody involved with Piper, unless Jo comes up with something more powerful to tackle the bad guys.
