‘Emergence’ star Alexa Swinton shares how Piper is figuring out her world just like a 'fairy tale heroine'

It's not just the 'fairy tale' element but the abundance of 'humor' on the thriller show that sets it apart from the other shows, feels Alexa.

From the audience's standpoint, ‘Emergence’ has always been viewed as a thriller show. Its abundance of mystery has been appreciated and criticized by fans alike. The show is predominantly defined by suspense, violence and human emotions messed up in unimaginable ways.

However, Alexa Swinton, who breathes life into the ABC series as Piper, has a different take on the show. In an exclusive interview with MEA Worldwide (MEAWW), the young actress talked about the series and chose to describe its story as a fairy tale. “I feel like our story is also a fairy tale. Piper is searching for her identity and figuring out her world and her role in it – just like every fairy tale heroine,” Alexa said.

However, not overlooking the immense display of modern technology incorporated on the ABC show, she further stated, “But it’s a modern world with modern technology and current issues. What’s cool is some of the science and tech appearing in our show – well – for example, robot dogs (that’s not a spoiler) – the other day I found out a police department is using robot dogs. And there is a lot of stuff like that. We are right at the edge of reality and fantasy.”

When asked how ‘Emergence’ is different from other thriller shows we’ve explored on television, she explained, “A major thing that also sets Emergence apart is humor. The actors on the show are super funny and just have such great comedic timing and sense.”

Describing the comical elements within each of her fellow actors, Alexa told MEAWW, “Starting with Allison who has done a lot of comedy and also Donald – who is a natural comedian and the incredible CLANCY who is Mr. Krabs on Sponge Bob – I mean Clancy is my hero! Also – Owain has a very British sense of humor and Robert Bailey Jr. – the actor who plays Chris – I think he is hysterical.”

Like Alexa, we also have several reasons to express our interest in the show. The show is hinting at returning with numerous surprises, giving rise to as many possibilities. You wouldn't want to miss out!

‘Emergence’ will return in January 2020 on ABC.
