Elon Musk's love life was marred by divorces to Talulah Riley and split with Amber Heard, will he find love with Grimes?
Who doesn't know Elon Musk? A billionaire tech entrepreneur, he is the founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla and the 23rd-richest person in the world with a net worth of $39.4 billion.
The 48-year-old said his Canadian singer-girlfriend, Grimes, gave birth to a baby boy. While the couple started dating two years ago after a nerdy tweet sparked a conversation on Twitter, Musk was earlier married to Canadian author Justine Wilson.
The two started dating while they studied together at Ontario's Queen's University and got married in 2000. Shedding light on intimate details in a Marie Claire interview, Wilson spoke about how their relationship began, "Previous boyfriends complained that I was 'competitive,' but Elon said I had 'a fire in my soul.' When he told me, 'I see myself in you,' I knew what he meant."
The two suffered a major setback when their first son, Nevada Alexander Musk, passed away merely after 10 weeks of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Delving deeper into how it affected their bond, Wilson confessed, "Elon made it clear that he did not want to talk about Nevada's death. I didn't understand this, just as he didn't understand why I grieved openly, which he regarded as 'emotionally manipulative.' I buried my feelings instead, coping with Nevada's death by making my first visit to an IVF clinic less than two months later."
She then added, "Within the next five years, I gave birth to twins, then triplets, and I sold three novels to Penguin and Simon & Schuster. Even so, Nevada's death sent me on a years-long inward spiral of depression and distraction that would be continuing today if one of our nannies hadn't noticed me struggling. She approached me with the name of an excellent therapist."
The couple finally parted ways in 2008 after a messy divorce. "Six weeks later, he texted me to say he was engaged to a gorgeous British actress in her early 20s who had moved to Los Angeles to be with him," Wilson disclosed, adding, "Her name is Talulah Riley, and she played one of the sisters in 2005's 'Pride and Prejudice'. Two of the things that struck me were: a) Pride and Prejudice is a really good movie, and b) My life with this man had devolved to a cliché."
Reportedly, it was the English actress Talulah Riley, and he got hitched with her in 2010. However, a couple of years down the line, he publicly tweeted to Riley, "It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day."
In a bizarre set of events, the pair reunited in July 2013 and married again. One year later, Musk filed for a second divorce from Riley and the divorce proceedings were finalized in late 2016, when Riley filed for divorce. After their divorce, Musk was rumored to be dating actress Amber Heard but the two split due to their busy schedules. The duo reconciled after a few months, but split for a second time, saying the timing wasn't right. The Daily Mail had reported that Heard clad in a swimsuit was caught on surveillance tape cuddling up to Musk in her husband Johnny Depp's private penthouse elevator. Depp accused Heard of starting an affair with the Tesla CEO a month into their marriage.
In a Rolling Stones interview, when Musk was asked if jumping into relationships was right, he said, “If I’m not in love, if I’m not with a long-term companion, I cannot be happy.” He then added, “I will never be happy without having someone. Going to sleep alone kills me. It’s not like I don’t know what that feels like: Being in a big empty house, and the footsteps echoing through the hallway, no one there – and no one on the pillow next to you. Fuck. How do you make yourself happy in a situation like that?”
In 2018, Musk got into a relationship with Canadian musician Grimes and they recently gave birth to a baby boy. Grimes opened up about their relationship in a Rolling Stones interview and said, “I do actually just really love my boyfriend.”
She added, “He’s just very good at talking me out of my bullsh*t,” she says. “I’ve learned a lot about controlling my state of mind.” The two have been going strong for a couple of years and if all goes well, Musk may finally settle down with Grimes.
