Ellen DeGeneres defends Kevin Hart over past homophobic tweets, says the Academy should re-hire him
Ellen DeGeneres has defended Kevin Hart over the backlash to the comedian's homophobic tweets that resurfaced recently and resulted in him stepping down as the host of next year's Oscars.
During a conversation with Hart on the upcoming Friday episode of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' she said that she even tried campaigning on Hart's behalf to ensure he got the gig back.
According to People, Ellen said, “I called [The Academy], I said, 'Kevin’s on, I have no idea if he wants to come back and host, but what are your thoughts?' And they were like, 'Oh my God, we want him to host. We feel like that maybe he misunderstood or it was handled wrong or maybe we said the wrong thing but we want him to host. Whatever we can do we would be thrilled. And he should host the Oscars.'"
