HILLSBOROUGH, FLORIDA: A Florida woman has been arrested after was caught on a hidden surveillance camera video where she was seen beating a 9-year-old husky with a mallet, leaving the dog blind in one eye and with multiple bone fractures.

On Monday, May 2, Elizabeth Jaimes, 24, was charged with a second-degree felony with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals with a weapon, a second-degree felony. On Sunday, May 1, officers of Hillsborough County responded to a 911 call that informed an animal cruelty incident at a Halifax Drive residence, as per the press release issued by the sheriff's office, reported Law & Crime.

Jaimes attacked the husky owned by her boyfriend's mother

After the responding officers arrived at the scene, they were given in-home security footage that showed the 24-year-old woman "holding a 9-year-old Siberian Husky ‘Maya’ with a leash and repeatedly striking the dog with a rubber mallet on the head and torso." Jaimes lives with her boyfriend and his mother who owns the Siberian husky in their Halifax Drive residence. The alleged footage of the beating was provided to the investigators by the owner. Maya is blind in one of her eyes and suffers multiple blunt-force wounds to her head. She also sustained back injuries including fractures to her ribs and spine, determined by the Veterinary Emergency Group personnel.

In August 2022, her boyfriend's mother noticed that the dog suddenly began sustaining several injuries. Jaimes moved into the residence with her boyfriend in the same month the mysterious injuries became visible. The husky's owner then set up a hidden camera per the veterinarian's request to observe the happenings when she was not around Maya.

Following the shocking abuse, the boyfriend's mother who checked the security camera footage allegedly saw Jaimes beating the dog. According to authorities, the alleged attacker admitted to attacking Maya claiming that the dog "growled at her."



 

"The actions of Elizabeth Jaimes are reprehensible. No animal deserves to be treated cruelly and inhumanely, and we will not tolerate it," stated Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. The husky victim was returned to her owner after Jaimes' arrest. The dog is currently recovering at home and the owner has sought an injunction against Jaimes after court documents were filed, reported Law and Crime.
