Elephant calf dies from horrific injuries after being tied with rope that cut into her ankle to the bone
The 1-month-old calf was tied and abandoned in the forest, and had been without her mother's milk for a long time
An elephant calf died of the horrific injuries she suffered on her foot after a hunter tied her up to a fence and abandoned her in a forest in eastern Thailand.
When the 1-month-old calf was later found by villagers in Rayong, the rope the calf was tied with was so tight that it had cut right through the skin of her ankle and exposed the bone on the foot.
It was not known how long the calf, which was named Baitong, had gone without her mother's precious milk when she was rescued by the villagers. Elephant babies are entirely dependant on their mothers for food till they are two years old; the fate of Baitong's mother is not known.
