Virginia woman dies of rabies after being bitten by puppy while on a yoga holiday in India
The 65-year-old woman experienced pain and burning in her arm six weeks after the bite and soon became aggressive, forcing doctors to sedate her with ketamine
An elderly woman who was bitten by a puppy while on a yoga retreat in India died of rabies just weeks after she returned home to Virginia.
The 65-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, felt pain and a burning sensation on her hand six weeks after the incident, and went to the hospital assuming she had been poisoned, Daily Mail reports.
Doctors thought the woman was suffering a panic attack and sent her home with medicines. However, she was left breathless and feeling "claustrophobic" after being discharged from the hospital. Within days, her condition quickly worsened and she became aggressive, was left gasping for air, and began to foam at the mouth — all the symptoms associated with rabies.
