Jerusalem shooting: 5 Americans among 8 injured in attack, pregnant woman undergoes emergency C-section
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL: Five Americans were among eight people injured in a shooting targeting a bus near the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City on Sunday, August 14, reported CNN. "A terrorist armed with weapons shot at a bus and vehicles in a parking lot near the Old City of Jerusalem," stated the Jerusalem police.
Shia Hersch Glick from Brooklyn was critically injured in the neck while trying to protect his family from the attack, reported New York Post. Glick is a cancer survivor and is in critical condition on a respirator but is expected to survive. However, his son suffered less severe injuries when he was shot in the right arm. A pregnant woman was also shot in the attack and underwent an emergency C-section. Both the mother and the baby are still in serious condition.

Another American wounded in the attack was Menachem Palace, 22, a member of the Chabad Hasidic movement from New York. Palace told Times of Israel, “I looked to my right, next to the window I was sitting next to, and I saw that it was completely smashed. I quickly ducked down and saw blood on my shoulder... From all the adrenaline, I didn’t notice that a bullet went into my shoulder.”
Out of the five Americans, two of them are treated at the Hadassah Medical Center and the rest of them are at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. At least two of the Americans were tourists, reported CNN. Two of the victims are considered to be in serious condition. Meanwhile, the others are mildly and moderately injured.
According to a CNN source, once the attack was over, the shooter -- an Israeli citizen from East Jerusalem -- fled from the scene. The suspect, later on, appeared in front of the police and his weapon was seized. He doesn't have any terror-related offenses but had a criminal record. Israeli media has described him as a Palestinian who holds Israeli citizenship.
The US Ambassador to Israel tweeted, "Deeply saddened to confirm that Americans were injured in this attack. I’ve spoken with the families and will keep them in my prayers. Continuing to monitor the situation." He added, "Just spoke with @SenSchumerwho was concerned about his constituents who were hurt in last night’s terrorist attack and offered his full support. Assured him that the well-being of American citizens is our top priority."
