Ed Sheeran jokes with fellow redhead Prince Harry in hilarious video as they team up for World Mental Health Day
The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, and singer Ed Sheeran teamed up for a video on Thursday, October 10, to show their support for World Mental Health as the duo joked about how hard it was for gingers out there.
Ed Sheeran, in the clip shared on the Sussex Royal Instagram account, jokes to Prince Harry, saying nobody understands what it's like for "people like us", referring to the fact that they are both redheads.
Prince Harry, however, tells Sheeran that must be a "misunderstanding" because he invited the singer to film at the Central London location in a bid to help raise awareness about mental health.
The royal account also posted a caption along with the video, highlighting the message of the comic clip, saying: "It's World Mental Health Day! Both Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran want to ensure that not just today but every day, you look after yourself, your friends and those around you."
"There’s no need to suffer in silence — share how you're feeling, ask how someone is doing and listen for the answer. Be willing to ask for help when you need it and know that we are all in this together," the caption added.
The video, which has already garnered 1.5 million views, begins by Sheeran grooming up before visiting Harry. He says: "Really excited today. Going to film with Prince Harry who contacted me about doing a charity idea with him, which is going to be good. I've long admired him… from afar. I guess I'll see you there!"
The clip then cuts to the singer ringing Harry's doorbell, which chimes the 'God Save The Queen' National Anthem before Harry opens the door.
The royal, while greeting Sheeran, jokes, saying: "It's like looking in the mirror," as they both stare at each other dressed in matching grey polo neck T-shirts. The singer then asks: "Do you mind if I bring the cameras in?", to which Harry responds: "Of course, come on in."
The Duke of Sussex then thanks Sheeran for coming, and says: "For me, this is a subject of a conversation that's not talked about enough. I think people all over the world are really suffering."
Sheeran, in agreement, says he is writing a song to raise awareness and get the message out. "Someone with your skill-set, to be able to write lyrics of a song to raise awareness would be amazing," Prince Harry responds.
However, Sheeran, in a comic turn of events, jokes: "That's exactly what I'm trying to do — people don't understand what it's like for people like us. With the jokes and the snide comments. I just feel like it's time we stood up and said: 'We're not going to take this anymore. We're ginger – and we’re going to fight'."
A confused Harry tells Sheeran that it's "slightly awkward" before explaining: "This may be miscommunication, but this is about World Mental Health Day." Sheeran then swiftly responds saying: "No no, I definitely knew that" while he deletes the words "GINGERS UNITE" from a PowerPoint presentation on his laptop.
The hilarious clip concludes with the actual message from Prince Harry saying: "Guys, this Mental Health Day, reach out, make sure your friends, strangers — lookout for anyone who may suffer in silence. We're all in this together."
