‘Live From the Forum MMXVIII’ 2018 Eagles concert to be broadcast for the first time ever on ESPN
If we told you that a historic 2018 Eagles performance is going to be aired on the sports network ESPN, you would be forgiven for thinking that we were talking about the NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles and their victorious Super Bowl run in 2018. But we're actually talking about the classic rock band, the Eagles, of 'Hotel California', 'Love Will Keep Us Alive' and 'I Can't Tell You Why' fame. It's now been confirmed that for this Fourth of July weekend, ESPN will air its first-ever music concert, 'Live from the Forum MMXVIII', which was a special performance by the Eagles during their 2018 North American tour.
In a statement, Eagles manager Irving Azoff said, "Music and sports fans have been shut out from live events for more than three months. The premiere of 'Live From The Forum MMXVIII,' this July 4th weekend on ESPN, is the Eagles’ gift to their fans." He also revealed, "We are honored to be part of ESPN's Sunday night programming, the home of such acclaimed shows as '30 for 30' and 'The Last Dance'."
The LA-based group Eagles played three sold-out concerts at the Forum in Los Angeles on September 12, 14, and 15 two years ago. For these shows, the band's core members Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B Schmit were accompanied by special guests Vince Gill and Deacon Frey - the latter is the son of Eagles co-founder, the late Glenn Frey. Highlights from all three shows have now been compiled into a brand-new 26-song live album and concert film which will premiere on ESPN this Sunday night, July 5 at 8 pm ET. Some of the songs that viewers can expect to see are beloved hits like 'Hotel California', 'Take It Easy', 'Life In The Fast Lane', and 'Desperado', including some fan favorites from the band members' solo efforts, like Don Henley’s 'Boys Of Summer' and Joe Walsh’s 'Rocky Mountain Way'.
'Live From The Forum MMXVIII' was directed by Nick Wickham on 14 different 4K cameras, and will be made available on October 16 in various audio and video formats, such as Blu-ray, CD, vinyl and streaming. If you want to pre-order the live album and concert before it airs this Sunday, you can visit the Eagles official website and Rhino's official site.
The special feature will be presented by ESPN’s SportsCenter host, Chris Berman, who is a longtime Eagles fan. Speaking about the upcoming event, Berman said, "Sports and music have long been at the top of the list for being able to bring people of all types together. The Eagles have been doing just that for almost half a century." He also added, "We at ESPN are thrilled beyond belief to share this premiere with everyone! What a wonderful way to cap off the holiday weekend!"
