The holiday special Verzuz battle between E-40 and Too Short, might just be the perfect bop fest that the fans were waiting for. On Saturday, December 19, the two Bay Area legends locked horns in the epic battle of Verzuz holiday season special.
The holiday special produced by Apple Music was truly legendary as it garnered more than 250,000 views in Instagram live and the Internet couldn’t stop talking about what it means for two iconic Bay area Hip-hop figures to finally participate in this. Prior to the epic battle, the Bay rappers duo talked about the initial hesitation, their long-time friendship, and what made them finally do this.
Too Short told Complex, “Every time that someone mentioned the possibility to me, I’m like, ‘I’m really not into that whole trying to prove that I had a dope career and battle someone else,’” adding, “There’s no satisfaction in that for me, trying to brag and get a pat on the back.” E-40 aka Earl T. Stevens chimed in, “I feel like battling ain’t never been me,” and went on saying, “I ain’t never been a freestyler, I’m just a game-spitter.”
The duo also talked about their decision to finally appear for Verzuz to give the much-deserved recognition that the Bay Area hip-hop scene deserved. E-40, 53 said “When I ran it past Short, we decided, ‘You know what? Let’s just do this shit man,” and added, “Swizz Beatz really talked us into it and we realized it was the right thing to do. We’re both so juiced now.”
Some of the most-anticipated songs like "Tell me when to go" and "Blow the whistle" ramped up the mood for the battle. Too Short’s ‘Buy You some’ and ‘Call Me’ made listeners nostalgic.
