'Dynasty' Season 3: Actor Robert Christopher Riley teases a major character comeback on series

Riley sheds light on the future of his character Michael Culhane and says he has proven to be a formidable opponent in an exclusive interview with MEAWW.

More catfights, couture, secrets, affairs and murder plots included, the third season of 'Dynasty' is all set to premiere on The CW. A reboot of the classic prime-time soap, it revolves around the feud for control over their fortune between the Carringtons and the Colbys. Actor Robert Christopher Riley sheds light on the future of his character Michael Culhane and teases more deaths and marriages in an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW).

The second season ended with Culhane building a case against Blake Carrington (Grant Show) and turns himself in to the FBI in an effort to land an immunity deal. But will it have any merit for his character or all his efforts will go down the drain? "It's really hard to go up against Blake Carrington", he says, adding, "But, Michael held his own in the second season and hopefully, he can keep doing so. And the third season we'll see Blake is no joke. So it's always going to be tough to go up again. Nevertheless, I think Culhane has proven to be a formidable opponent. And I think that he's going to hold his own against Blake."

Revealing one major twist in the third season, he says, "One of the most unexpected twists would be a certain character returning to the series that the viewers are not ready to see. I can't reveal the name, but it's going to be good for the show. And there is a big surprise around it."

His relationships have also been surrounded by many complexities. Talking about his future equation with Fallon Carrington (Elizabeth Gillies) and Kirby Anders (Maddison Brown), he says, "Fallon and Culhane have drifted apart a little bit. And it's normal for people to grow apart just a little bit. But, I think they genuinely love each other. There's always hope that they'll find their way back together."

He adds, "Kirby and Culhane have one thing in common and that is their disdain for the Carringtons. So we'll see how long that lasts. Sometimes building a relationship based on not liking somebody else isn't the best idea, but hopefully, they can find some of their own love and common ground."

Talking about his experience on the set with the ensemble cast, he says, "We get along like a real family. We spend a lot of time with each other outside of the show." On-screen, he may be plotting against Blake Carrington but he says he gets along the most with Grant Show off-screen. "I'm closest to him off the set by far. It makes it easier to hate someone on the show when you love them in real life."

The biggest cliffhanger was when Liam fell flat into the swimming pool. Dropping hints about the scene, he says, "I think that Liam and Fallon's relationship is pretty solid. And it's unfortunate that he fell into the pool. But, 'Dynasty' is known for its twists and turns. So I would say, hold your breath!"

Are there more unexpected deaths next season? "There's always deaths and marriages on 'Dynasty.' So I wouldn't be surprised if someone else died and somebody got married in the third season," Riley says. New episodes from the series will air every Friday on The CW, starting from October 11, 2019.
