A Royal handover? Queen Elizabeth reportedly preparing Kate Middleton to take over royal commitments
It is being reported that apart from loaning Kate her personal jewelry, the Queen is also helping her prepare her for the day she becomes Queen of England
It was only last weekend when Kate Middleton and the Queen were spotted attending church together at Balmoral, and one of the surprises during this particular visit was that Kate seemed to be wearing a pair of earrings from the Queen’s personal jewelry collection. This is just one of the instances that show Queen Elizabeth getting closer to the Duchess, highlighting the fact that she is slowly taking Middleton under her wing.
It has been reported that apart from loaning Middleton her personal jewelry, the Queen is also helping her prepare for the day she becomes Queen of England.
“There’s no training course per se to become a queen,” said Emily Nash, royal correspondent for Hello! Magazine, as reported by ABC News. “But obviously Her Majesty has years of experience that she can share.”

Since Middleton is married to Prince William, who is second in line for the British throne, she has a lot of responsibilities that she needs to be aware of, especially when William becomes king. The couple's three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are also the third, fourth and fifth respectively in line to the British throne, which puts a lot of pressure on the royal couple.
The royal family is currently spending their holidays and the last few days of summer at Queen Elizabeth’s Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where even the kids are slowly being introduced to the traditions of royal life. For example, it was only earlier this week that Prince George reportedly went on his first grouse shoot, even though it was not perceived so well by people across the world.
“George has been on his first grouse shoot with his cousin Savannah Phillips,” said Nash. “Charlotte's been learning to ride and we saw them both having a wonderful day at the polo with George perfecting his strike of the polo ball.”
However, Middleton, who is currently on maternity leave after the birth of Prince Louis earlier this year, has taken on an increasingly high-profile role. The Duchess, according to reports, was the brainchild behind 'Heads Together', a groundbreaking mental health campaign launched by Middleton herself in 2016 with Prince William and Prince Harry.
"It was Catherine who first realized that all three of us were working on mental health in our individual areas of focus,” William said in a speech last year. “She had seen that at the core of adult issues like addiction and family breakdown, unresolved childhood mental health issues were often part of the problem."
Reports state that both William and Middleton are slowly, but steadily stepping in for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at official events, which only goes on show that the duo is increasingly taking over responsibilities from the Queen, as she passes over some of her royal commitments to the younger generation.
“Kate has everything it takes to be the perfect queen consort,” said Nash. “What we do know about her is that she prepares a huge deal before she goes out for her engagements, and she's been keeping tabs on her charities even while on maternity leave.”
Middleton will reportedly end her maternity leave this fall, post which she will return to work in the mental health arena and in gathering support for her other charitable interests. At the same time, she is also expected to take a prominent place at the Dutch State Dinner, which will be hosted by the Queen in October this year, just like she did during a State Banquet for China in 2015, as a senior member of the royal family.
