SAFETY HARBOR, FLORIDA: A Florida man has been arrested and charged after he broke into a home and started cooking and eating the food inside.

Gavin Crim, 19, of Dunedin, broke into a Safety Harbor home in the 2400 block of Huntington Boulevard just after 4 am on Tuesday, September 3, while under the influence of alcohol, according to Fox13. Pinellas County investigators said that Crim entered the home via an unlocked rear door, and that, instead of stealing something of value, he started cooking and eating the food inside the residence.

The ruckus woke up the person living inside the home, who then confronted Crim. But instead of fleeing, the 19-year-old reportedly told the victim to "go back to sleep." However, when the victim told Crim that he would be calling 911, he made a run for it, though he didn't get very far.

When deputies responded to the scene and conducted a search of the area, they found the teen hiding in a wooded and swampy area behind the home and promptly arrested him. During questioning, Crim admitted to breaking into the home, and he was subsequently charged with felony burglary of an occupied dwelling in connection to the bizarre incident.

He was booked into the Pinellas County jail at 5:25 am and released from custody after posting a $1,000 bond the next day. Task and Force reported that Crim is a Marine who is currently assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines in Twentynine Palms, California. Just last month, he was promoted to lance corporal from his previous position as an 0341 infantry mortarman.

This is not the first such incident where a US service member has been found in trouble for breaking into a home for an unusual reason. Petty Officer 2nd Class Nathaniel Williams, 27, was arrested in Ebina City near the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan this past February after he broke into the home of a Japanese couple to use their shower, according to Stars and Stripes.

Like Crim, he had entered the home while intoxicated and was found naked when the 44-year-old man who lived in the home woke up to use the bathroom; he was arrested on suspicion of trespassing.
