If you've been waiting for something binge-worthy, then get ready to kick-start your New Year with Season 2 of 'Dream Home Makeover'. Husband and wife duo, Syd and Shea McGee of Studio McGee are back in action, with a whole new season and new challenges as they help families create their perfect homes, regardless of how small or big their budget is. If you have an idea, the McGees will help you find your vision and make it a reality.

Studio McGee

Although the show began in 2020, Studio McGee began in 2014. The couple put in a lot of work to create a design firm of this calibre. Both quit their jobs to pursue their passions — Shea was in PR before she quit to study design while Syd left his tech job to run the business side of the studio, the journey was not easy for the two. Making this career shift was far from easy on them and their then growing family, but they both had a vision and were determined to make it work.

The couple goes into quite a bit of detail about their situation in their book, 'Make Life Beautiful', which further confirms that they are, in fact, extremely passionate about what they do. And you can see that passion play out on screen too.

The show is as real as it gets

It is often assumed that reality shows are far from real — that they're often scripted, with every detail planned out. That's not the case for 'Dream Home Makeover', however.  "We were really lucky that our shares represent what our real process is actually like. What you’ll see in this show is true to how we communicate with our clients, work with contractors, and collaborate with our team." Is what Syd and Shea had to say about same, in a post on their website.

Shea has also mentioned that their work on the show is meant to go beyond designing a home. It allows them to showcase what Studio McGee does and what their business is all about. "So many of the home shows that we watch, the homes are just for television. We’re so excited to bring what’s happening at a design firm to television.” Shea said, in an interview withThe Salt Lake Tribune.

Season 2 gives closer glimpse into McGee's lives

Shooting Season 2 was far from easy, thanks to the pandemic. But somehow, Syd and Shea managed to make it work, with the help of a very limited crew. Season 2 even had a virtual producer towards the end of filming, thanks to social distancing. The virtual producer was essentially a laton and a speaker that was carried around so that the show's (real) producer could stay in contact with the couple throughout.

Season 2 seems to be especially exciting, seeing that it will feature more of the couple's super adorable daughters, Wren and Ivy. Overall, Season 2 promises to be just as exciting, fuelling us with envy over all those beautiful spaces that we're soon going to be privy to.

Watch 'Dream Home Makeover' Season 2 on Netflix on January 1, 2021.
